Very much in the middle and was confused about what the right choice was during the last election. Not at all a Trump hater, but not a supporter. She became a supporter today. She was really impressed. I think she has the mindframe of the average American and I can imagine a lot of other people out there were really moved by what he said. |

They have a win in what they were campaigning for. They will take the credit for it and the never ending story of that same issue will continue on. It did so when there was no such thing put into command, by EO or Congressional and Senate law. It did so even after it was put into EO or temp law. It is obtaining what it wanted even though it does so acting like it is unhappy with it and against it, this is only a prop display to get it un-noticed by those watching it. As Laura Ingraham noted on Fox News, this demonstrates that there is no coherent Democratic voice - the party is fractured, just as it was fractured immediately after the election. Point the fourth: Today, I left the Libertarian Party and joined the GOP. I will not be alone. Point the fifth: Trump surprised me. Truly. He anticipated precisely when the Democrats would jeer and what they would not cheer for. At several points, he turned to the Democrats and gestured in various ways to signal "Hey, here's what I've achieved/offered - why aren't you acknowledging this?" In particular, I noticed he did this on jobs, unemployment, black unemployment, tax cuts, wealth increases, and his immigration offer. Not only that, but when he began to discuss immigration the Democrats began to jeer - to which he responded by immediately moving to two Hispanic families in the audience whose daughters were killed by illegal immigrants. The Democrats immediately shut up, and there was not a single jeer for the rest of the speech. Point the sixth: Trump's speech was individualistic. As a foreigner, I want to highlight this, because it's an important point. America is an essentially individualistic country. Socialism, which emphasizes the collective as against the individual, is an aberration in American society - though loud, only a small percentage of Americans are genuine socialists. The Democrats only offer socialism now - group politics, group identify, group policies, group interests. It's all we heard from Obama for 8 years. But Trump is an individualist. What he did tonight, most fundamentally, was stoke the fires of individualism. America is composed of individuals, and we can work and help one another. His guests were individuals who have achieved great things or suffered terribly - they are not numbers or statistics. Individual Americans are benefitting from tax cuts, the end of the Obamacare mandate, the booming economy. Trump allowed individuals to believe and to hope again. Individuals can achieve success in America. Trump, in short, destroyed socialist or collectivist politics tonight (not ideology - politics). He tapped into the individualistic core of Americanism and preached it to a populace tired of collectivism and self-hate. I believe that this accounts for the tremendous success of the speech among Independents, who are essentially individualists, and even among a large number of Democrats. Summary It is my opinion that Trump just won the Republicans the midterms, assuming the Republicans don't screw it up. He has presented a vision and challenged the Democrats to explain why they aren't on board with that vision, despite his offers. He has also, by his success (which many Americans heard about for the first time tonight due to the partisan reporting of the MSM), demonstrated what can be achieved when freedom is restored and the energies of the American public are released. The Democrats, meanwhile, imploded: they demonstrated their anti-Americanism before the nation, have no coherent message, and sent out the slimy offspring of a 60-year old American legacy to lie to us. I want to encourage Americans to join the GOP in order to participate in primary voting, and then to vote for pro-Trump candidates, and to preferably try to kick out incumbent Republicans. Then, in the midterms, vote GOP. In this vein, I want to especially ask Libertarians to consider switching allegiance - I am a Libertarian, and I have switched to the GOP. I'm happy to discuss my reasoning at length. That ship sailed long before now. Just a real libertarians perspective. |
