In the wilderness of Africa people eat leaves and fruit and all that jazz. Yeah there is war and chaos but at least they are mentally healthy and physically healthy right?

Don't romanticize life in Africa. I've worked in more than one African country where the conditions were deplorable.

Western civilization gives rise to diseases based on abundance of junk food and sedentary living, but it's nothing like what I've seen in Africa: leprosy, noma, cholera, parasitic infections of every kind, the list goes on and on.

You think they're eating healthy food? More are malnourished than not. Despite being told about the health risks, some Africans still consume bush meat, eating things like monkeys and rabid bats.

You think there's less war and chaos in Africa? Just be thankful they don't have weapons of mass destruction, otherwise that continent would be a wasteland. However, they are able to kill millions with machetes in just a matter of days.

I worked in a refugee camp in Tanzania on the border of Rwanda in '94 when that horrible genocide occurred. It was a nightmare. Injured people, terrified people, a small mass grave full of children who had died of cholera. Seeing those dying children in my head even after I got home, I did not get out of bed for 3 months; I was so depressed. I never went back to Africa again after that.
