Actually he's in town here in Monterey for a conference this weekend. Funny thing is I was reading about it this evening ( [link to www.ksbw.com] )
then around 9pm i stepped out to go to Starbucks - only to wind up in traffic! was at a standstill for minutes without movement -
it dawned on us that this might actually be O's motorcade we were stuck in! we joked about it some but got tired of waiting --
pulled out to move ahead of the vehicles and sure as shit, it was the motorcade! waiting on him to exit a restaurant.
did'nt see him but did see the 11 black SUVs, and what appeared to be a modded van in full tow.

The amount of security a former President [or ANY global leader, for that matter!]requires is in direct relationship to how much he fears a public that largely despises him.

In contrast, when Harry S. Truman left office, the first thing he did was to have the 8' chainlink fence the SS erected around his Independence MO home TORN DOWN. He also resumed his daily morning walks minus the previously required agents dogging him every step. He flatly refused their "protection" as a waste of taxpayers money and a constant source of irritation to himself and family. And this coming from a man who was once targeted in an assassination attempt [by two Puerto Rican nationals] that left two people killed [one a DC cop, the other a gunman] while he was in residence at Blair House [the WH was being renovated at the time]. TRUMAN TRUSTED THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT MUCH. Obama probably still uses a food-taster like the despots of ancient Rome!

BTW: after the lone surviving assassin was sentenced to death, Truman even commuted his sentence to life imprisonment. Such was the measure of Harry Truman: what he lacked in height, he more than compensated for in integrity!
