Anonymous Coward User ID: 76023031 United States 02/09/2018 10:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | U.S. immigration law has long required officials to exclude a person likely to become a "public charge" from permanent residence. But current U.S. guidelines, in place since 1999, narrowly define "public charge" to be a person "primarily dependent on the government for subsistence," either through direct cash assistance or government-funded long-term care. Quoting: Feistylorax My Cambodian friend escaped out of Pol Pots cruel and murderous regime Her family was sponsored by a CHRISTIAN church (even though they were Muslims) back in the 70's The sponsor arranged RESPONSIBILITY for them - set up with a job for the father with a congregant working in a factory... They had to sign they either had resource or sponsors and would NOT be given Welfare for any reason for at least one year and probably four years. The father worked - later got his wife a job in same factory - and my friend cleaned houses for cash -the wife's younger sister Hardest working family I ever met - paid CASH for car - When kids - all honor students - became teens worked at fast food after school and weekends -and then came right home Family saved and built credit and bought a home. Did not take services except public school I helped her study for the citizenship exam. She ha never been to school (taken by PolPot at age 6 to work rice paddies) She had to learn to READ - had to read aloud for the citizenship exam - a children's book - she reached grade four in reading. Took the drivers test and citizenship same year. Kids became doctor engineer and lawyer before I lost track of them. Father had heart attack and died in minutes and they moved where his brother lived. None of them were troublemakers or took social services. They APPRECIATED coming to "the land of opportunity" in USA. Waited four years in a UN Camp in Thailand so they could come here. Didn't expect anything but a job promised by their sponsor. That's he way it used to be for REFUGEES of GENOCIDE - PolPot killed over a million of his own people - many others of the family did not make it. They saved and visit relatives in Camnodia every couple of years - taking garbage bags and full suitcases of anything the church- neighbors- or friends give them of clothes and sheet plastic. The plastic was for roofs as their huts leak in the rainy season and they sit in water unless they get plastic rolls. Never asked for anything - worked hard- and were the happiest people I ever met. Coming here was winning the lottery to them. |

Quoting: Vision Thing So remember that if people start making this sound different than it is. I don't even get who all these 100s of thousands of immigrants are that are here without a green card and getting government benefits. Apparently you can come here on a student visa, H1-B visa, seasonal agricultural worker visa, etc. and get government benefits? I'm quite sure you can't do that in other countries including Canada. Probably would apply to the numbers of "immigrants" who showed up in sanctuary cities under BO. When I lived in Milwaukee in 2014, busloads would suddenly descend on the Walmart to buy basic items, as if they had just arrived. Males did the speaking; females in full cover. I couldn't figure where they were from and didn't ask. They were very dark, somewhat arabic. Somali? Rumors at the time that the sanctuary cities were being utilized to drop ship thousands. From what I saw, none of them had the language ability to interact. But then again, it was clear they were not allowed to speak or make eye contact. The male would ask where to find an item. |

Thankyou Mr. President! Yeah like Me. I haven't worked in 4 months since I work seasonal contract and I have to live impoverished 8 months out of the year. I would have to live so bad if I didn't have to write a 25k check to the government at the end of the year. The fucking single mothers on section 8 & food stamps live way better than Me because they get free housing and food without having to spend the summer on a damn shrimp boat. My sister and her husband are shrimpers out of Port Sulphur, LA. Man, such hard work out in the sun and humidity. Hard life indeed. Best luck to you. |

They have proven that over and over. And why should they become citizens if they still get the bennies? Not everyone that was eligible for DACA even applied. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69932789 BUT this in combination with other measures will definitely have an impact. If they get benefits, and are illegal, gov should be able to locate them. Homeless veterans, etc. Quoting: Deplorable Mary I used to work part time in a grocery store and the amount of benefits these people got was ridiculous. Both Ukrainian and Hispanic. Although the Hispanics were wiring hundreds back home while the Mrs. Was filling her grocery cart and paying with EBT and WIC. They followed the rules, yet the Mr. Would take out a wad of hundreds to pay for the beer and cigarettes that benefits didn't cover. The Ukraines would try every way possible to scam on their benefits. If you can afford to send hundreds back home and still have several hundred left, you can buy your own damn food. Thank you Mr. President. This law should go for the legal immigrants too. If you have to be on public assistance GO HOME. I think that's how businesses hire legal workers for low wages- those employees are subsidized by welfare-tax payer money. I don't know why the law doesn't cover the legal ones as well. |

The government could then fine the business 20k per illegal and the bad ones will just go out of business or fire all the illegals. Pussy Grabber Extraordinaire |

Then say that same man abuses her and whatever children they have so she leaves him, but he stops supporting her and his children with her. In that case, any benefits that she collects are really what he owed her. He needs to pay up and it shouldn't count against her.
