They had to sign they either had resource or sponsors and would NOT be given Welfare for any reason for at least one year and probably four years.

The father worked - later got his wife a job in same factory - and my friend cleaned houses for cash -the wife's younger sister

Hardest working family I ever met - paid CASH for car -

When kids - all honor students - became teens worked at fast food after school and weekends -and then came right home

Family saved and built credit and bought a home.

Did not take services except public school

I helped her study for the citizenship exam. She ha never been to school (taken by PolPot at age 6 to work rice paddies)
She had to learn to READ - had to read aloud for the citizenship exam - a children's book - she reached grade four in reading.

Took the drivers test and citizenship same year.
Kids became doctor engineer and lawyer before I lost track of them. Father had heart attack and died in minutes and they moved where his brother lived.
None of them were troublemakers or took social services. They APPRECIATED coming to "the land of opportunity" in USA.

Waited four years in a UN Camp in Thailand so they could come here.

Didn't expect anything but a job promised by their sponsor.

They saved and visit relatives in Camnodia every couple of years - taking garbage bags and full suitcases of anything the church- neighbors- or friends give them of clothes and sheet plastic. The plastic was for roofs as their huts leak in the rainy season and they sit in water unless they get plastic rolls.

Never asked for anything - worked hard- and were the happiest people I ever met. Coming here was winning the lottery to them.

This law should go for the legal immigrants too. If you have to be on public assistance GO HOME. I think that's how businesses hire legal workers for low wages- those employees are subsidized by welfare-tax payer money.

I don't know why the law doesn't cover the legal ones as well.

So let's say some asshole can't tolerate an American woman for a wife, so he goes and gets a mail order bride. Then say that same man abuses her and whatever children they have so she leaves him, but he stops supporting her and his children with her. In that case, any benefits that she collects are really what he owed her. He needs to pay up and it shouldn't count against her.

It would be better if You rewarded the person 10k for reporting a business that hires illegals. The government could then fine the business 20k per illegal and the bad ones will just go out of business or fire all the illegals.

If you marry a foreigner and go through channels, the foreign spouse is a permanent resident (green card) and this doesn't apply to them.
