How to get dead animal smell outta house..

Well John Wayne Gasey would tell you to stop burying bodies in your basement, he learned that to late but it will stop the smell.

It will go away on it's own over time. The best thing you can do is find the dead raccoon and get rid of it. That is just about the only way to speed things along.

remove the dead animal

bleach the area

step three

deodorizer spray.

If its a small creature you can just wait it out.

With a rat or gerbil size the smell will last about 2 weeks.

If it's in the attic it shouldn't be too hard to track down. Just get up there with a good flashlight. If it's in the walls I wonder of a good hound might be able to pinpoint it?

When I was a kid Dad put out mouse poison and one died in a wall

That area stunk bad for 3 months

He didn't use that kind of poison again

At least mouse traps kill em where you can find em

I found a dried up mouse, looked like jerky just darker. I snapped a few pieces off and gave it to my drunk pedo neighbor, said it was my new twice dehydrated beef jerky.

If you can find it, powdered lime will soak up the residual smell. It's what they use in outhouses.

if you don't/can't find the animal i would suspect that you might have serious problems like demonic/apparition type problems do not dismiss this possibility smell of death often is tied to an haunting

Usually a rat or mouse has gotten into the wall and died. Once in a while it's a possum or skunk and rarely a stray cat. Follow your nose to the strongest odor and then start opening walls or go up in the attic or down to the basement before you saw into your walls. You may get lucky and find a dead animal in the attic or basement where it's easily removed.
