my dog has been not eating very well. She wouldn't touch the food she used to eat; I thought she was getting finicky but maybe something is wrong with the food.

She has no problem eating the human food.

China has been killing our pets for years.

That's a very sad article.

It looks like the FDA isn't going to do a thing about it.

“Pet food violates federal law, is openly allowed by the FDA to violate federal law, billion dollar a year companies are making profit selling illegal adulterated products to unknowing consumers in the U.S. every day,”
 Quoting: Petpeeve

There is no one looking at the labeling of pet food. I know I did my research and that is how I shipped thousands of packs of magic mushroom stuffed capsules down there and labeled them as 'herbal pet dewormer'. No one cares, no one looks. Feeding your dogs/cats bags of cheap shit food is like you eating at McDonalds three meals a day.
Learn to make your own pet food if you want to step it up and become a friend to your canine there buddy.

I might be wrong, but somewhere in the deep recesses of my brain, I pulled this out. I do believe they use Pentobarbital when they put dogs down.

I have two very spoiled pups who have been on the BARF diet just about all their lives.

BARF stands for Bones And Raw Food. Once a month, I pick up 10 lbs of chicken necks and a couple of cans of Mackerel from Food City. I also blend up a mixture of apples, red lettuces, carrots, summer squash, pumpkin and a couple cloves of garlic.

They get chicken most nights and a little fish a few nights a month for variety. Always with a spoonful of the veggie mix.

It's a bit more labor intensive but winds up costing me less than if I was to buy a 20 sack of kibbles.

The dogs love it. It keeps them healthy and their coats shiny and full. The bones clean their teeth as they crew and it gives them the sweetest breath.

The vet just thought my 11 year old Deer Chihuahua was 7-8, and Otto the hound mix lived to be 18. That's about 6 years past his normal life expectancy. I told the vet about it she said it's wonderful for both dogs and cats.

If you start an older animal on this diet, ease them into it. I've very rich compared to normal dog food and may cause a little tummy distress.

I swear by this diet.

Duck it (fuck google) for more recipes and testimonials.

Please! Make your own pet food. It takes a little time,
but you can save yourself a ton of grief.

Started doing this for my dog and cat in 2006 when China
put ground up plastic "melamine" (the stuff they make hard
plastic plates with) in the meal to increase the WEIGHT.

This is NOT going to stop as there have been similar
contaminations of various kinds repeatedly over the years
since that first really bad one in 2006.

This is the new "normal" for pet food. Sad...but true.

Thank you,

It's very easy to make your own dog food,

My dog was so stiff and sick the vet wanted to my boxer down, I looked up natual vet,

Started making my own dog food,

Got chicken thighs fried them in coconut oil added brown rice and water,
Let the lot simmer for an hour or more , chicken broth , I pulled out the thigh bone, and a huge pot of food ready,

Portioned and froze,

I added crushed egg shells for calcium and
Glucosamine and omega 3,

2 weeks later my boxer could wag her tail again,

And 4 years later all is well,

I never bought dog food again ,

I change my formula around to fish caught or other meat,

Also the pet food put crude ash in dog food which is cremated dogs,

Making your pet eat another dog,',,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Our husky died last year but we are going to get another soon. We were wondering about what to feed the new one, we had given our other dog blue buffalo and some fruits and veggies but we weren't too sure about a raw diet. I've heard people that say it's bad and others rave about it.

I think we'll try what you've been feeding yours. The dog foods are constantly being recalled and they are full of nasty crap. Should we ease him into it? We don't have him yet, but we are planning on getting a male pup, husky of course.
And the LORD spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.

I second this. I've started my 8 year old GSD on a fully raw diet. Just before I changed his diet, his age was really starting to show: he was limping around way more often, he would struggle to get up sometimes from a resting position, and he was more listless.

Since I changed him to a fully raw diet, he's like a version of himself from 3 years ago. Full of pep, arthritis seems to be gone, excited for meal time again... it's amazing. I hate to think about the years I probably added to his life by feeding him processed food for so long. I've always given him more top-of-the-line products, but still... it's processed and their bodies aren't made for that type of food.

We have fed our Shepherds raw chicken for years with no problems, maybe we've been lucky. We buy frozen and they get it soft frozen, so no chance for anything to fester. I was leery at first but did a lot of research and people said, no problem. They also get raw eggs.

You shouldn't be feeding your pets that grocery store crap anyway. You give it the best, for a cat it's 40 to 50 bucks for a 14 lb a bag lasts a few weeks, well worth the cost to know they are getting quality. There are several good brands and even local brands, and real foods for dogs now as well.

I'm sorry about you Husky. Those are very cool dogs. Smart and good looking, but they are bolters, as I'm sure you know.

If he's a pup, just start by throwing a neck in with his kibbles. Do this for a week or so then ad a spoonful of the veggie mix. The following week, ad a couple more necks and reduce the kibbles. By the end of the month have him on just the chicken and veggie mix.

Just make sure the chicken is raw and no load-bearing bones. Things like legs and thighs are more brittle and can splinter. You don't want that. Necks and backs are the best. Their cheap and easy to work with. I get 10 pounds and then divide it up into 5 separate bags and freeze 'em then pull bag out as needed. You might want to consider a case at a time. And it may take you a few calls to find a regular supplier. I've been getting mine at Food City since 1998... and a case (40 lbs.) is like $30.

Mackerel is just to give them variety. They also go nuts over this.

Rice is good to add to the veggie mix but more as a side and not an actual ingredient. It turns to mush and get nasty pretty quick.

Also, I take pumpkin (NOT the pie filling!) and spoon it into an ice cube tray and freeze them for summer treats. Your dog(s) will go ape-shit over these. Jackson, my oldest, will take one and lick and nibble on it for an hour. Mavis, the little girl dog damn near swallows hers whole.

But they do love 'em.

DO NOT COOK IT!!!

The heat makes the bones brittle and the dog will eventually choke or worse.

I've been using this diet for more then 20 years and there's never been a problem. Not a one. In fact, quite the opposite.

Just don't feed them rotten, smelly chicken. Thaw it in the refrigerator.

Re: WTF is going on? Multiple Dog Food Brands recalled... Pentobarbital

And the vets do too. Most of them are pushing some high-priced kibblet that's mostly corn.

The more honest vets will tell you the BARF diet is great. The ones pushing the kibble will give you a list of reasons why you should never blah blah blah.

I base my opinion on experience. Not what some money-grubbing vet tells me.

Salmonella can make a pup very sick, I don't know how folks prevent this when feeding raw chicken for example. I think I'd cook it.
I fed my little diabetic dog home cooked meals for 7 years. the vet said he would live one, and I think on a dog food diet he would have died early. He lived to be almost 14

No I wouldn't feed dogs cooked bones, I've had animals for 50 years. I think the dogs that eat raw have salmonella, just they are healthy and you don't know it. It shows up when a dog does have a compromised immune system tho. Not arguing with you, I just won't do it. All my animals live long lives.
Zoos used to feed the big cats chicken necks and I believe that they were encountering some serious problems and have stopped. They can cause paralysis in canines as well, just something to be aware of.

Re: WTF is going on? Multiple Dog Food Brands recalled... Pentobarbital
I was feeding my dog pedigree dry food. He had been eating if for 3-4 years and then started to have seizures. I switched him to an expensive brand I bought at Petco. He still had seizures. This went on for several months and the seizures were getting close enough together the vet was going to put him on anti-seizure meds. He had not wanted to do that earlier because he said once they go on they will always need to take them because if you take them off it can bring on seizures. Anyway, I had moved and there were no Petcos nearby so I picked up a bag of old dog Science Diet when I was at the vet. He stopped having seizures immediately. He's been on that food for almost 7 months and no seizures! I don't know what some of these companies are putting in their food, but it's obviously toxic.

I've heard that some of the raw ingredients (like the glucosamine) sometimes come from China, so even if they state made in the US, it's not always US ingredients.

Check where new Science dog food is made, I think I stopped buying it re China or Chinese ingredients, the problem is epidemic, can't trust anybody, and most vets aren't knowledgeable either, they tend to trust what a salesman tells them
