Im starting to think kids are going to start doing these false threats now like they did back with call in threats back in my school days. You would think any email would be super easily tracked |

You have one side that wants to ban arms, and another that wants us to have grenade launchers. This wikipedia site though has quite of bit of knowledge in US school shooting related deaths. As you can see, this has occurred since the dawn of the republic. It's true that we have some that are mass such as what occurred last week, but school shootings have occurred since the beginning. The 1980's were the worse if the data is proper. If you ban a certain weapon today, tomorrow they'll ban others. It's like when smoking started getting banned. First it was no smoking on plannes, than public buildings, now it's everywhere. Or gay marriage. Government gave in to gay marriage, now we have people trying to marry inanimate objects, or animals for christ sakes. If you allow something today, you must think what that could entail in the future. [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] [link to www.wnd.com] |

Quoting: 5.0% Agreed--- these events are often scripted for the purpose of pushing gun control on the masses--- and they usually dovetail with or shortly after "drills." As a parent I would demand to know when an active shooter drill is scheduled, and I would keep my kid home on that day. Don't let your son be canon fodder. The only thing is --- if he does try to leave, the police might shoot him for disobeying lock down orders-- so he's stuck. Perhaps you could purchase a kevlar vest for him to wear-- or a kevlar backpack as a shield.. Its time to think about home schooling or correspondence courses-- these are evil times we live in.. God bless u and I hope everything is OK. |

Guys, buckle in. I think they are trying to make this a terror to every person, so they can finally claim the guns of Americans. Quoting: DGenesis1:29 Sounds about right. eatinmraw User ID: 41033436 United States 02/19/2018 04:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | See...this is what I thought was SOP...lockdowns. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76133492 Yet, we are told that the school in Florida was evacuated, while an active shooter was present on campus... There is a lot that doesn't add up. Indeed it does not. You won't be encouraged to discuss the inconsistencies. it seems there are differences in each school district for their own lock downs and even local leo's have different protocols. there is no one protocol as while similar...every incident is accessed before chargin in. there does however seem to be more of an effort to start evacs even when there's a possible active shooter still around. and again...each incident and local leo jurisdictions can be and most times are different. the school district i work in has there plan/s posted on their district websites and many times the student handbook of "rights" and "responsibilities" will cover this too. i'm all for some type "plan" bein in place...but i would think constant updating and definite IMPROVISING while the incident was in progress would be a safer bet than always bein a b c 1 2 3. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 76264173 United States 02/19/2018 04:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yeah, my kids school district doesn't take today off. Not sure why. In LIVID that the school administration knew about this last night and didn't do anything. Why have the kids go to school and then deal with it?? As far as I know no shots have actually been fired, but that's not very comforting right now. Quoting: *<3sugar&spice<3* WHen i was in high school as a form of protest on certain days someone would pull the fire alarm, usually when it was nice out and we wanted to play frisbee or something. One time a group of kids got the idea to call in a request to the local FM station for "Another brick in the wall (part two)" and everyone who had a car tuned their radio to this same station in the parking lot, which was right next to the football field where we were all herded during these drills. In my day it was bomb threats, if a kid had a test or detention he might just call in a bomb threat from a pay phone and the school would be canceled for the day |

However many students, my son included say the doors to all classrooms were locked, dogs were brought in and that many kids were very scared. The school officials are basically saying that they determined that the threat they received last night was not serious enough to keep kids home, and that "the investigation is ongoing". Well f** that. If the investigation is ongoing, how in the HELL can you say for sure my kid was safe today? Luckily he was, luckily nothing actually happened, but this was handled completely wrong. Other kids report they were searched. My son was not, and said he didnt see that but who knows if its true. This whole thing stinks to high heaven. Despite the fact Ive been coming to GLP for years now, I never thought this kind of shit would reach my backyard. Well it has, and its eye opening. I'm seriously looking into homeschooling now. (OP) User ID: 10544418 United States 02/19/2018 06:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Letter from the school: (notice the date, guessing just a typo but Im leaving it!) February 18, 2018 Dear Parents & Guardians, Late last night, it came to our attention that there were comments being made on social media about a student making a threat towards Richford Junior Senior High School. We worked with law enforcement to complete our own investigation into this matter. Immediate steps were taken to ensure students were secure at school and that no threats existed within the building. Necessary steps were taken immediately to ensure that the student in question would not be on school grounds pending the outcome of the investigation. Our doors were locked like they always are. We did change our procedure for the morning arrival time. Doors will no longer be unlocked in the morning; students will need to buzz in when they enter the building. We were not under lockdown at any time today, and there was no evidence to suggest our students were in immediate danger. This investigation is ongoing. If we felt students were in immediate danger, school would have been cancelled today. We can appreciate concerns from parents about wanting information from the school. However, there are times we can’t share, because of an ongoing law enforcement investigation. Please know that we take all threats of harm seriously and will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to ensure the safety and security of all our students. There was a greater than normal law enforcement presence today from the Border Patrol and the Vermont State Police because they reached out to see if we needed additional assistance. Please know that when something like this happens, the administration needs to be able to prioritize efforts centered on safety and security, the investigation and collaboration with agencies involved and will not be immediately available to take calls from concerned parents. We worked hard to get information to families as quickly as we were able to. It came to our attention that misinformation was spread through social media today, which led to panic in the community. We sent an all call to families this morning and this letter home with all students this afternoon in an effort to provide our community with accurate information and dispel rumors that have gone around social media. In general, there is research that suggests that potential perpetrators sometimes signal or give red flags about an intention to do harm. We want community members, staff and students to feel encouraged to report any concerns about threats or signs to any school administration, any school staff member or law enforcement. As Governor Scott stated in a recent press conference, “If you see something, say something.” Our staff will continue to work collaboratively with our law enforcement partners to make student safety and school security or number one priority. "Live each day like it's your last, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like no one is watching." GO PATS!! :Go Patriots!: |
