No, working is NOT a normal human activity. It is a religious one.
Animals only "work" as much as is needed each day to survive. That includes humans closest ancestors, the apes.

Obsessing about "work" and working overlong hours everyday only really came about as religions starting preaching about how great it is. The religious "leader" con men needed others to overwork so they could be fooled into giving extra food to "god." As today, religious "leaders" really provide no tangible benefit other than just hypocritically lecturing others so they needed others to agree to feed them.

Many of the few remaining self sustaining primitive tribes still adhere to this philosophy as well. They have zero stress because they only do enough to get by.

chuckle No, I am talking about the very FIRST examples of encouraging overworking, not Communism, etc. The earliest versions of the Torah and Bible preach about how "godly" it is to work yourself to death. Of course, the priests and other leaders arent really doing any of the actual work, they are simply demanding donations from the workers. Sounds familier even for today.

Neither, its been foisted on people by the rich. That's because the rich really own just about everything. They portion a small amount of what's left out to the people that work. If you don't work you only get enough to live on (welfare) which is paid for by the people that work. It didn't used to be this way because long ago before the rich owned everything the was enough to go around for everyone and man and women only had to forage for food and build shelters. Now the rich are in full control.

Well there you go.

PS: A few see the futility of the working 50 years just so they can collect a small pention and scrap by. So they turn to crime.

Basically true however the earliest version of "rich" were the religious leaders just as OP said. They figured out that if they could convince others that they were "needed" to talk to god for them, they could do no work for themselves and yet still grow fat. That has been the religious scam ever since.

Working is for chumps who need to do it for material gains and feelings of self-worth and self-importance. The biblical "work" mentioned above was about volunteer work to serve others.

Yeah, I work for a living and that makes me a chump, too. I wish I had the guts to just quit and live in a commune, or something. No money, just doing chores to make the commune a better place for everyone.

As OP states, you have to look at the very earliest examples of this "hard work is a virtue" fad. If you were a religious con man, you had to convince others to feed you. In order for them to feed you, without you yourself working, you needed to convince them that they needed to work harder. It expanded from there and is still the case today. Religions would die off if others didnt work hard for extra money to feed them.

But when early humans killed a deer, they didnt say, "lets go kill five more so we can stockpile them" like you do with your bank account. They were taught to keep "working" harder and harder to feed/pay for the lazy ass religious types.

I worked hard for years.

But the general opinion was I was a waste of space.
