Animals only "work" as much as is needed each day to survive. That includes humans closest ancestors, the apes.

Obsessing about "work" and working overlong hours everyday only really came about as religions starting preaching about how great it is. The religious "leader" con men needed others to overwork so they could be fooled into giving extra food to "god." As today, religious "leaders" really provide no tangible benefit other than just hypocritically lecturing others so they needed others to agree to feed them.

Many of the few remaining self sustaining primitive tribes still adhere to this philosophy as well. They have zero stress because they only do enough to get by.

You would be shocked about how many people are still being conned by religions. The Catholic church is the richest private organization on earth and yet they still preach "charity." Protestant TV preachers are multi millionaires from the donations of average people. Same for Mormons, Scientoligists, many other cults, etc, etc, etc. All con games.

Productive work and work as social status game are very different things. The media/finance capitalism clique uses work as a control mechanism

LOL. Religious "leaders" do NOT work at all. They REQUIRE donations from others to eat. Ever wonder why early religions wanted "sacrifices" of food and animals? Do you really think that "god" needed food and animals? Absurd.

Even my cat used to work, OP.

She would be waiting at the door every morning for me to let her outside, eager to ensure that her territorial rubbings from the day before were still there.

She expanded her territory daily, going further and further from her yard.

During the day, she would only come home to eat and use the litter box.

Then at nightfall, she'd come home and sleep like a log until the next morning.

She was a hard worker and she was a CAT.

When you say that animals only work enough to suit their needs, you obviously weren't talking about my cat.

And humans aren't animals, OP. You may be lazy and unambitious, but society wasn't built by lazy and unambitious people.

I hope some day when you grow up and actually have an informed opinion to share with others, you'll appreciate not only the value of work but the people who do the work.

Consider what must be done when construction companies are no longer in business, the groceries stores are completely emptied, and the starving hordes of displaced transients come to your former home in search of morsels to eat.

Groceries were not always there to provide quick acquisitions. And in times of economic drought, the bread lines will be enormous. So tell me, who is closer to living the American Dream?

The enslaved marching to the tune of their task master? Or the mountain man who lives far away, and detached from the outer world. Being forced to rely on the land in its natural state, rather than the concrete jungles that seek to control your fate.

Working is for chumps who need to do it for material gains and feelings of self-worth and self-importance. The biblical "work" mentioned above was about volunteer work to serve others.

Yeah, I work for a living and that makes me a chump, too. I wish I had the guts to just quit and live in a commune, or something. No money, just doing chores to make the commune a better place for everyone.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76539860

As OP states, you have to look at the very earliest examples of this "hard work is a virtue" fad. If you were a religious con man, you had to convince others to feed you. In order for them to feed you, without you yourself working, you needed to convince them that they needed to work harder. It expanded from there and is still the case today. Religions would die off if others didnt work hard for extra money to feed them.
