Major Charles Emerson Winchester III dead at 75

David Ogden Stiers, perhaps best known for playing the aristocratic surgeon Major Charles Emerson Winchester III with such dry wit, died after a battle with cancer, according to the Associated Press. He was 75.

Stiers earned two Emmy nominations for his work on the dramatic comedy built around the 4077th mobile Army surgical hospital during the Korean War. Stiers channeled refinement and sarcasm into the character of Winchester, a talented doctor whose love of classical music and gourmet foods was often at odds with life in the military camp.
