Hi saw a good video about that. The assassins were supposed to die but they washed their hands.  VX kills in seconds on contact. By the time they got around to washing their hands, they'd have been dead already. Anyone within 100 feet of them would have been dead too. But the videographer was perfectly fine right after the animals were exposed to film and watch them die. They were not wearing any chemical charcoal suits while watching.
