Fort Hood soldiers arrested in child prostitution sting

Killeen police on Monday said they arrested nine people, including three of whom were members of the military, through a child prostitution sting operation last week.

The Killeen Police Department announced the arrests through a Monday news release, which stated that the nine men were arrested throughout a two-day operation that concluded Saturday.

"During this operation nine suspects, three of whom are military, contacted officers through various social media platforms and made agreements for sexual acts with girls they believed were 15 or 16 years of age," police said in the Monday news release.

Two women accused of sex trafficking minors in Broward, Palm Beach counties

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Two women are now behind bars for their alleged involvement in sex trafficking of minors, the FBI announced.

Federal court documents allege the pair was sex trafficking two 15-year-old girls from October 2019 through January 2020. On Jan. 29, 2020, one of the victims was recovered during a human trafficking operation at a hotel in Fort Lauderdale. Authorities reached out to the other victim for the first time on Feb. 12, and she told authorities both girls were forced to have sex for money at an Airbnb in Lake Worth.

Sexually explicit photos were taken of the girls and posted on websites used to advertise for prostitution, according to court documents. One of the victims had been reported missing by her family around Jan. 18.

Chinese Envoy Angered Over Australia Virus Probe Call

Australia betrayed China with calls for an investigation into the origins of the coronavirus, a Beijing envoy said Wednesday, likening the moves to Brutus plotting against Julius Caesar.

Wang Xining, the Chinese embassy's deputy head of mission, made the remarks in a rare public address as he spoke of the "indignation, anger and frustration" felt by China at Australia's push for a global inquiry.

"It is approximately identical to Julius Caesar in his final days when he saw Brutus approaching him," Wang said.

The virus was first detected in the central Chinese city of Wuhan late last year, and has gone on to kill more than 800,000 people around the world.

China insists the source of the virus remains unknown, a position Wang repeated on Wednesday.

But China reacted with fury when Australia led calls in April for the independent probe into the virus.

Beijing subsequently imposed tariffs on Australian goods and warned Chinese tourists and students against visiting the country, citing alleged racial harassment against Asians.

Expanding on Beijing's reaction, Wang said Australia had "singled out" China in its call for an inquiry and had not given any notice of its plans.

"All of a sudden, they (the world) heard this shocking news of a proposal coming from Australia, which is supposed to be a good friend of China," he said.

While federal tax laws do prohibit 501(c)(3) groups from being used for partisan electioneering, they don’t ban individuals who happen to work at them from having political opinions and making them public.
