We used hand held drip torches to backfire and secure fire perimeters on almost all wild fires we were deployed to... But, then again, I live in Montana and we hardly know anything about Forest Fires around here... I saw some of those fire techniques in films shown in class back in the late 60s. I was scared for them lighting the fires but so impressed and fascinated at the same time as a young girl. Thank you for your help! |

It is plausible that this is being used as these "fires" are popping up so frequently, and then the State requests Federal Funding in the aftermath, like California has gotten used to in the past decade. |

When I was growing up we did a lots of control burning timber lands in the south. There is a lot to the art of a good burn (and you can royally fuck up if your not careful).. nature appreciates it. Guess it's why it burns my butt up to see how they have set this up out west. Deliberately let all that fuel build up for years while they schemed for the day they could torch it. Bounce the rubble of a bankrupt state. Yes, I seem to recall Los ALamos and Hanford both being burnt in 'controlled burns' that got out of hand, then the billions in SUperfund money to clean those sites dropped... Lol In our case it would be worried about neighbors comming after you with pitch forks. Does a forest a world of good. kills back vines and briers and especially fuel build up. |
