Energy. Vibrations. Star Trek was way ahead of all of us with that hand device Bones would scan over people that fixed them up so fast. I'll bet those devices have actually been around for a very long time.
I still remember Bones looking at a person who had surgery and him saying something like "good God, how archaic".
