I tend to agree.

The narrative being told is that these objects are a potential threat, which sets things up nicely for the 'alien invasion' that we need to defend ourselves from...

...or it's a situation of bad cop/good cop where there are two alien civilizations playing this game, where we get defeated and beaten down by one only to be 'rescued' by the other...except both groups are really nefarious and the 'good guys' are only there to get us to ask for a one-world government so the demons running the show get our consent, which is very important to them.
