Pfizer has voluntarily recalled 12 lots of its anti-smoking drug Chantix for containing high levels of cancer-causing agents called nitrosamines
According to a notice posted on the FDA's website 'the presence of a nitrosamine, N-nitroso-varenicline (NDMA)' was above acceptable intake
'The health benefits of stopping smoking outweigh the cancer risk from the nitrosamine impurity in varenicline,' the FDA said in an update
Chantix is a pill the FDA approved in 2006 to help people quit smoking
