Now Jesus was weary one midsummer afternoon, having not wine nor manly men for a fortnight straight.

Peter looked saddened by his Lord's question and cast a downcast eye.

Why arst thou downcast Peter? I have asked you a straightforward question, willest thou not a truthful answer?

Peter clenched his hands a moment or two, then will all the strength he could muster, looked Christ in the eye and said,

Lord, do forgive me, but the thoughts of all the land are in agreement of our current travels, the service we render and the services we receive. This you also know. I am only troubled that you seem to feign ignorance that you ask the question.

O dearest Peter whom I love even more than all the others, save John for reasons you already know, and even above the life of myself, I feign no ignorance. Now for your punishment of questioning your lord in such a manner, you go to the naughty house again tonight.
