Army Veteran Beaten By Sheriff's Deputies in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana During a "Welfare" Check

Case of Pearl River veteran beaten by St. Tammany Parish deputies turned over to feds

Chris Cambre says he was having a bad day Jan. 21 when he posted on social media that he was struggling. The Army combat veteran suffers from anxiety and depression, and his online post and his failure to answer his phone got someone worried enough to call and ask police to do a welfare check.

But Cambre's bad day was about to turn far worse.

The 48-year-old former military police officer from Pearl River says he was later knocked out, tased, handcuffed and beaten by five St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office deputies, an account backed up by a Pearl River police officer who was at the scene.

When the five deputies arrived, they approached Cambre with guns drawn.

"They were screaming at me to stop resisting, but there was no resistance," said Cambre. "I was laying, pretty much face down, in the mud. My palms were facing skyward. I'll never forget."

According to the report, Cambre lifted his shirt and turned around to show he wasn’t armed and he never raised his voice. The narrative says one of the deputies yelled he was tired of dealing with Cambre and ordered him to get down on his knees.

“I don't understand what he did wrong to deserve to be tased or batoned but I wasn't out there,” Jennings said.

The police report says the five deputies jumped on Cambre after shocking him with the stun gun. After he was on the ground, one of the deputies continued beating him with the police baton.

This event happened before the "take the guns first" discussion. I wonder if it had happened afterward, would the deputies have confiscated the veteran's firearms?

With an involuntary commitment on his record now, he likely won't be able to pass a background check.

This is the future they have planned. If you don't go willingly to the hospital, you will be beaten into submission.

This is a damn shame.

Facebook will getcha in trouble everytime.

I was going to say something derogatory about the area, but after I looked up the demographics, It doesnt look too bad on paper. (Considering the state of our nation)
