I joined in 2004, used it a few months, then deleted it because I didn't see the point. Back then Facebook was only for people with .edu email addresses so it wasn't so overrun with people, but it was still pretty pointless unless you were a raging narcissist fishing for compliments or sympathy. |

Does not look intelligent AT ALL. He's that creepy red head kid we all had in our elementary class. Remember that creep? Not the cute red head curly hair funny kid, but the creep one. Sometimes you got the good one and sometimes you got the creep, but there was always at least one red head kid. |

All your information is stored, it's permanent, and they still track you. You can only avoid it by not ever signing up in the first place. if you already did, just erase most of the page for public consumption. I use it as a sort of blog knowing they are saving the information and tracking it. I get a real kick out of seeing pop ups on FB in accordance with what I am WRITING! I really hope they send Zuck and a whole bunch of them to prison for life. It doesn't look like this is anything we can ever roll back now. It's also sad to see how they intentionally killed Myspace, the original FB to up Facebooks value. I still miss My Sace for whatever reason it really worked on a social level, so much better than FB. Now I see FB trying to go retro and look like the old MS, people post the old glitter memes now. |

So what other platform is rising to take over FB customers? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 76407972 United States 03/28/2018 12:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Isn't there one already? Why hasn't it caught on outside of its 'niche market?' Maybe what passes for 'conservatives' today can't come up with any interesting, original ideas of their own? They're living in the past, not the present and they don't seem to want much to do with the future, to which all innovation properly belongs. That's just as true if you had prefaced 'social media' with leftist, or 'progressive.' They're not a bit progressive, are they? They're as rigid in their conformity as all those conservatives they don't like and just as terrified of self-analysis. They're more open to trying out the 'never tried before' than conservatives are, but having their feet firmly planted in mid-air keeps them from finding any realistic and practical ways to apply it. And that's my point: social media with a political identity must perforce become an echo chamber, hostile to all outsiders, dissenters, questioners or anything they can't put a label on and all that becomes b-o-r-i-n-g very quickly, particularly for our short attention-spans of today. Politics is only interested in conformity, coercion and control, the same old shit through the centuries. It's as bad as organized religion and you'll generally see those two working hand in hand giving each other a feel. There's a problem with that, you see. The people who created this technology, no matter how any person or media tried to represent them later, had to have one thing in common: absolutely free and independent thinking, as separate individuals - at least while they were doing that job.:) The creative leaps of mind that we call genius can never, ever be produced by a collective. |

Omg, what the hell did people do before email, internet and cell phones? Some people seriously can't think their way out of a paper bag. Have your own website! At first just post your name, a picture if you like, and whatever you want to say. Then add things carefully one by one: a message board, some links to other sites, etc. All of this stuff is available free, and you can get someone to help you for very cheap if you're not at all a computer nerd. Like, for $20. I never understood the benefit of having a page on Zuckerberg's site, vs. having my very own websit on the internet. What Zuckerberg gives you is just some utilities that mirror what you can add to your own website anyway. These were my thoughts 20 years ago and they're still my thoughts today. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 75461800 United States 03/28/2018 12:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Why would these people think that their data is ever deleted? Just look at the YouTube statistics what they used to keep track of. Even when it was new. they recorded exactly what portion of the video you watched etc etc. They record everything you type every keystroke every Mouse click. Microphones record everything whether you are using them or not. Seriously this is why they can invade Iraq and Libya and Afghanistan and none of these people are ever able to even actually carry out a terrorist attack in retaliation. Just think if these countries cannot even carry out any sort of retaliation neither can you when it's your turn. |
