Oklahoma teachers strike for third day in a row.
They got their raise but it's not good enough. Some people have to work for a living and get fired if they don't show up. Why couldn't they strike during spring break?

Re: Oklahoma teachers strike for third day in a row.
I heard on NBC and Fox News (Lou Dobbs) that the teachers got a 16% raise. They were complaining that it wasn't enough money since they only make $34K per year. Yet, the cost of living is not that much here in Oklahoma. Also, the teachers interviewed had multiple children and they expect the State to support their breeding. One teacher stated that she made more in Retail....

Then they should go to other carriers, that make more money, and make room for new teachers...

The teachers want the same pay as others in different States. Problem is the cost of living is different in every State...

Where is the money going to come from???
It would have to come from the home owners and property taxes....

Imagine if everyone's property taxes went up $1500 or more a year just to give teachers a better salary. Do you really think homeowners would want that???

Look at New York teachers. They make decent salaries, but the cost of living is very expensive. Do you really think that the children are being taught better by someone making twice the money. Of course not, your lucky if they are able to read and do the basics when and if a student graduates, from public school, in New York...

This is not just about the teachers raises. My kids go to Oklahoma schools. Per the teacher, they did give them a raise, but the funding they were promised for the classrooms was revoked. That is why they are still protesting. Not just because they want more money for themselves. The roofs are leaking, the bathrooms are falling apart, they don't have textbooks, the list goes on. Mary Fallin is a shameful disgrace and our kids deserve better. I fully support the teacher walkout and I will post a few links from representatives and what Mary Fallin thinks of the teachers in just a moment after I go grab links.

They pushed the session back to 3pm specifically because they were hoping teachers would be gone by then. It's disgusting and they know what they're doing is wrong.

I saw the pictures of the 10+ year old textbooks. It is ridiculous but it can't be fixed over night.
I guess I will have to homeschool my baby.

Re: Oklahoma teachers strike for third day in a row.
I understand why the teachers are striking, yet I'd like to know how much was allotted in the budget for repairs and school supplies. It can't be zero. What I'm hearing from the videos is they are asking for $70+ million. So what was the base cost??? They never mention it and they don't tell you the breakdown of costs for that $70+ million.

Also, look at the School Superintendent Salaries. Why are they making over $100K. I'm sure that their salaries could be trimmed down and that freed up extra money can be used to repair broken plumbing, ceiling tiles, and leaks....

Then you have to look at how Tax Payer dollars are spent on Schools. There is something fishy going on. Some kind of audit needs to be done to find out if funds are being spent wisely and not used to grease someone's pockets....

After all of this and the Children and Schools need more money for books, school supplies, and better classrooms; then the State better come up with the money. This may mean higher school taxes or other creative ways to procure the monies needed. If Oklahoma Congress fails in this regard, then its time to march on the Oklahoma Capitol...

You clearly don’t understand what the Republicans in Oklahoma are; they’re corrupt and stuck in 1955! Peace.

Bad Pattern, You are right. I was there when the bomb squad was called in and they shut down Lincoln Blvd to investigate a bomb scare. It was right next to the porta potty. All I could think of is, "I'm advocating for my students and I'm going to die in a porta potty." :)

Oh wow, I hadn’t heard about that! Glad it was false alarm and glad you didn’t cross over from a porta-potty!!! It’s seriously spooky what’s happening in Oklahoma... Prayers for everyone’s safety! Don’t cave in, they’re counting on the teachers and protesters to cave! It’s long overdue for sicko Fallin and those Rinos to get a reality check! I’ll drive back to Oklahoma just to order some Taco Bueno and pray it’s Fallin working the drive through! “Extra Fire sauce please!” (Not that there’s anything wrong with working a Taco Bueno drive through, I just miss Bueno and want to see that fascist pig have to actually work one day of her pathetic life!)

And to be clear, there are some truly amazing, genuinely kind hearted people in Oklahoma; please don’t think I’m bashing them for one second!

Peace and God Bless! Stay strong and safe!

Yikes I hadn't heard of that either!! I was thinking of taking my kids down there today, but I think we're going to skip it. I'm not so sure that's the best place for kids, especially as tensions are rising due to lack of response.

UPDATE for all of you people that think this is bullsheet. My wife works at Santa fe High and she just told me that there are about 100 lawyers that might get involved because of the Lottery money not going to the schools and on top of that, the Indian reservations are now going to get involved to show them where the money went on their end. This is just the tip of the iceberg, this may be brought up in most states where there is casinos and that explains to me why these representatives are being so defensive. Shits about to go down big time in okc. These corrupt assholes all across this country need to be taken out and I am talking about all the state politicians, not to mention our gov.bumpbumpbumpbumpbump

Oklahoma is too conservative for that. Life in prison without parole for making hash/concentrate. Also, way too much revenue from the privatized prison system there with THE highest female incarceration rate in the entire country. Let’s not forget the toll roads in place for maintaining segregation (where’s all that money going? $4 one way from Tulsa to OKC!) or the 3.2% crappy beer (sell/drink twice as much!)... you’d think they’d just grow male plants aka HEMP but many there can’t grasp that Male Cannabis plants don’t get people high... Also Fallin signed some bizzare bill that literally hides where all the spending for Oklahoma goes. Oh yeah, and of all places, their new history books are leaving out the Trail of Tears! These aren’t Republicans running that state, they are gel head moronic Rino lunatics getting their pockets lined by lobbyists... tattoo shops were illegal in Oklahoma until 2007. The Lottery was illegal forever and then finally passed with the promise that a large chunk if not most of the money would go to education, but the Tribes don’t have to cooperate or be held accountable whatsoever; it’s truly insane. Another oddity about Oklahoma is that there is an invisible line right down the middle of the State, making it east vs west (OKC vs Tulsa) especially with regard to News, including even when there’s mega severe weather... it’s seriously twilight zone there. It’s the most polarized State I’ve ever been to. It’s always been OU Sooners vs OSU Cowboys. The summers are so damn hot and humid people must stay inside because it’s literally like Vietnam. The toll road money doesn’t ever go towards fixing the roads properly, they just constantly “patch” potholes (no pun intended) with a shovel full of concrete and pat it for a few minutes. I’m proud of Bartlesville teachers for spearheading the protesting, very confused and disappointment as to why the other 2/3rds of the Districts aren’t joining in. Stay Safe, Please Don’t Cave!!!
