My kid is afraid of a ghost in our home
In the evenings she refuses to be left alone in her room even though we are in the next room. She keeps telling us she's afraid of a ghost.

I asked questions about the ghost. She said it visits her at night when it is more visible, but sometimes she sees it during the day, too. In daytime it's "like a thin fog" she said. The ghost lives in one particular room of our house.

She's also been talking about "light children" who look like kids of light. They are happy and form a ring to protect her from the ghost.

I find this worrysome because both I and my wife have experienced weird stuff (orbs, noises, unexplained anxiety and fear) in that room where the ghost allegedly lives.

We haven't talked paranormal with our kid and all this has come out of nowhere.

Well that's unsettling! I hope you figure it out. Has your child tried simply telling this "ghost" to go away and that it isn't welcome? It helps.

Unless it's a demon. I. That case, you're gonna need a professional. Don't let it scare you though. It loves that kind of energy.
Goodbye, halcyon days...

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened.

Not yet. I have read that it may be a bad idea to communicate with a ghost in any way because it might make it more active. I have asked her to tell us when the ghost appears and call for us - even waking us up at night - if it is bothering her.

It's hard to talk with her about the ghost without alarming her or giving her ideas which would make it harder to separate fantasy from her real fears. I have simply told her to come to us if she is feeling afraid and that we'll try to deal with the problem.

Now that was a surprise. A GLP ghost thread that actually sounds honest and credible.

Regardless of whether there is a ghost or not (I don't personally believe in them), I hope you find a way to ease her fears. If she was my kid, I'd do just what you're doing and see if the problem goes away as she grows up. Just don't show her that you're worried or pay a lot of attention on 'the ghost' (like talking to it in her presence). Focus on her.

I don't know if I believe in classical ghosts either, but I do believe that there is more to the reality than what the science knows or can ever find out. It would be wrong to just tell her that ghosts don't exist. As you say, promoting her fears by asking too many questions or talking to ghosts would be mistake, too. If the ghost is just her imagination, doing so would tell her that it may be real after all.

I don't really know how to deal with her problem except by being there for her when she is afraid.

Tell your daughter there are no ghosts.

If ghosts were real slaves would come back and fuck people up, you know that right?

What do you expect in this crazy society? The entertainment is way over the top, everyone's desperate and in debt, these crazy movies and shows with all the uber real storyline and special effects, our politicians are nuts, our foreign and economic policies are monopolies for the rich, what did I forget? This society is warped now, way worse than when we were young, that's why the kids are sensitive.

Oh yeah we can't over look the push by the tpb on kids to question every natural and normal instinct they have, Christ sake don't let her go to the bathroom in Target alone.....

I had an experience when i was 4/5 years old. My parents would not listen to me. Would turn on all the lights-make me look under the bed and cuboards etc and despite me trying to tell them that "they" were not physically "there" . My parents would get so furious and smack the crap out of me.

So i took business into my own hands. They were less scary than my parents...There was always more than a few talking to me (sometimes all at once) and always seemed frustrated. But i managed to talk to one - i asked very politely if they could make it all go away because i was not getting much sleep and i didnt like being frightened and didnt know what they wanted. "She" witchidy witch was the name i gave her ..i know..i was 4. But she asked me if i was sure once more if i wanted it to stop. .I said yes..and it did.
True story.
Could of been my imagination- who knows. But it was real to me at the time.

So my advice to you is to get her to maybe face her fears, be respectful and ask kindly for them to leave her alone.
Worth a shot.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have been considering doing just that if the problem persists. So far the ghost has not communicated anything (I asked her) and is just there.

Maybe playing some really twangy country "music" would drive it away. Try playing some Scotty McCreery or Tammy Wynette. That'll get rid of it.

Re: My kid is afraid of a ghost in our home
I can remember only a few years ago, before my daughter left for college.

We were experiencing things that were like WTF was that?

Speaking with someone with paranormal investigation experience, told me what we were seeing was related to my daughter. As I was told spirits/ghost are far more active when a young female is living in the house.

The things we experienced, seen and heard were unsettling. Now she is away at college and it was like someone turned the faucet off.

At 1st we blew it off since it was a newly built home, figuring the house is settling. But the night my daughter came face to face with a shadow person on the steps, things worsen.

See, she had no idea that both my wife and myself have seen shadow people. Hell I didn't tell my wife the two times I seen them. My wife told me what happened to her the night she was heading towards the stairs and came face to face with one. after my wife told me, I informed her of what happened to me twice with 9 days.

So I started a journal, keeping dates, times and what occurred. This journal is now 30 plus pages. Very few entries anymore, but when she lived at home it was almost daily something was logged.

Re: My kid is afraid of a ghost in our home
Negative entities can stick around a house. My grandaughters said they didnt like it here, and when they are here, they are badly behaved.
I have felt the oppressive vibe here, but im used to it, plus im an adult so not as adversely affected, never thought about it until they noticed.
I dont have them here anymore, I go to their house to babysit now.
I have no idea haw to get rid of the varmints.

not a ghost. it's a poltergeist. just psychic energy. very difficult to get rid of. do the research. make the kiddo happier. lowering her stress level (there has to be something causing the stress- don't argue- just find it)
will help. that's about the only way. just don't think of it as an entity.

Find some TV shows that this ghost can't stand. Turn on the TV to those shows. I bet reruns of the bachelor would drive any self-respecting ghost insane.

Re: My kid is afraid of a ghost in our home
Children - their familiarity with nature spirits

"Beyond what we see lies a world we do not see and yet is just as real. This invisible world is inhabited by beings we call fairies, nature spirits. It can happen that children see these creatures. During their first few years they live in spontaneous contact with them. But if they speak about them to adults, especially their parents, the adults pay no attention or find their stories amusing. Then, because no one is taking them seriously, the children no longer say anything and even come to doubt what they experienced, until finally they forget it. Very young children possess a kind of clairvoyance, and if adults agreed to lend an ear to their stories they would make astonishing discoveries, which might allow them to recall experiences they had in their own childhood. Through their neglect they deprive themselves of something very precious.
So pay attention to what a small child expresses, even one that is seemingly less awakened, for their spirit, which is not yet completely incarnate, senses what adults no longer see or sense. Children do not truly inhabit their physical body until they are seven years old. Until then they live partly outside their body, and this is why the spirits of the invisible world are familiar presences to them."

Re: My kid is afraid of a ghost in our home
I know this is going to sound stupid but tell her to say Jesus, Jesus Jesus!! It works!! I have seen ghosts my whole life. Started when I was a child. I used to close my eyes and pray and they would go away. But as an adult I learned to say that and they left. I have prayed over my home and asked that it be filled with God's Holy Spirit and they have really pretty much stopped now. They used to wake me up every single night and even tried to communicate with me. I found out a few years after moving into our new home that our house is built on an old indian village. Figures since I saw a ghost that was in full feather head dress and indian clothing!!
