Patrick McGoohan actually wrote for the Prisoner tv show and had strict rules as he was a very moral man in real life. He didn't want his character to be a bad influence.

Late-night TV is another thing that has been trashed by the left.

Although Carson was a liberal, he didn't run that aspect of himself up the flagpole and beat his viewers over the head with the "I'm a progressive, you have to be too" mindset of today.

As for cultural extremes, late-night host Jack Parr in the early 1960s was treated by NBC as having violated TV TOS standards when he said - believe it or not - "water closet."

Today?

He'd have to say "fuck you" and show his penis in order to violate broadcasting rules. I wish that were pure sarcasm, but it increasingly really isn't.

What's not sarcasm, is he would have to say "All Lives Matter" in order to get the hook by NBC in today's America.

At 6 years of age and our first TV in 1953 this was my favoite TV show on Saturday Mornings. Anyone remember that far back?

 Quoting: justavet

It got later released in the mid 1960's and then my generation also grew up with it, in color, on videotape.

How many kids around America crayoned-up their parents TV Set in their living rooms? We didn't know about that plastic nuisance you had to put in front of the tv screen to have your own interactive (almost computer) tv set! The only problem was, some parents wouldn't allow their children to soak up THAT MUCH cathode ray radiation all over their bodies, standing 3 inches away from a 10,000 Watt picture tube giving off gamma rays, x rays, EVERYTHING BAD rays onto them & into them.

You're so right. He didn't even like his character to carry a gun. He might take a gun from someone if he was attacked, but I don't think he ever carried a gun. Not that I personally object to that, I don't, but he was a man of strong intellect and convictions and I've adored him since childhood. I try to watch anything he's ever been in, even things like Ice Station Zebra. :)

If you rewatch those shows, they had those terrible laugh tracks with very artificial sound effects. It's flat out peculiar as if they lacked the confidence to believe the jokes were funny enough. It's very forced.

After Star Trek ran from 1967-1970, then it went into near constant reruns. And cable in 1976 made it possible to see Star Trek all the time.

Kolchek the Night Stalker was very limited but diverting as few shows dealt with the supernatural. Mostly you had to watch BBC tv shows which ran on PBS to get any quality occult shows on ghosts and vampires.

I used to watch this just for that phenomenal theme song, written by the great Bond composer, John Barry. EPIC.

Funny, how sometimes you'd watch a show just to hear the theme song and great credits - nothing like that today.
