Until that fateful day when you realize you left your device in the car and your batteries froze and ruptured spewing nuclear waste all over your Prius. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75901286 the nuclear waste is not in liquid form. It is upcycled! They take the graphite core out of a nuclear reactor, and then subject it to very high temperatures. This results in sublimation, so the graphite core literally evaporates into a gas. This gas is subjected to super high temperatures and pressure, which causes it to compress into a diamond! A very, very electric diamond! Sounds like the core of the Earth, only in miniature and on the surface, and useful. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75539787 This may be a mini nuke if tried. LOL Yeah if you have a "subcritical mass "and compress (overcoming nuclear forces)it to achieve a "critical mass". This is not even close.... it's got all that Energy squished into it and ready to blow. |

Diamond BATTERIES made of NUCLEAR WASTE can provide electric power for THOUSANDS of years. When I was an engineer at Rockwell, one of our scientists created ceramic pellets using nuclear waste. The waste materials were locked up as constituents of the ceramic and could not be leached out by water. Quoting: darth 70183558 A barrel of those pellets could heat water to boiling for thousands of years. Nice energy source. As it turns out, the anti-nuke crowd is NOT interested in actual solutions except the option of abandoning nuke power forever. I once met a guy from the Clamshell Alliance, a prominent anti-nuke group. I asked him about using fusion power plants. He said, "Our position is that any fusion power plant has to be at least 93 million miles away from inhabited areas, i.e., the sun". He looked smug at this bit of humor. If the greens were serious about cutting carbon emissions, they would be all for fusion power as well as thorium powered LFTRs. BTW, LFTRs can burn up rad waste and obtain the energy. wow. I just need ONE of those barrels! Very very interesting. Your comment made me realize I have a lot of studying to do. The approach is simple: Figure out which elements are radioactive isotopes in your waste stream. Then, figure out which ceramic compounds use those elements. Mix, bake the pellets in a kiln, and voila! Then, you can leach out any elements that did not combine into the ceramic matrix. As an engineer, I always value the elegant, simple solution. |

Years ago, I read something about an ancient human race far more advanced than us using a large diamond or crystal that powered all of their technology, including space craft. Dang, I am going to have to see if I can find that now. This also makes me wonder more about those crystal skulls that have been unearthed in different locations around the globe. Fascinating stuff. |

Diamond BATTERIES made of NUCLEAR WASTE can provide electric power for THOUSANDS of years. Thanks OP very interesting video. I was just wondering how much energy it took to put the radioactive waste into the diamond form versus how much energy you can extract. Also, I think what they should do is think about creating shells of these diamonds to increase the amount of power they can get out. So like maybe 1,000 diamonds each outer layer a little larger and slightly skewed from the last to direct and increase power output. |

Total amateur here but it stands to reason that a small star that can't make much of anything heavier than carbon when it "dies" wouldn't be able to achieve black hole status but would still collapse on itself, creating an enormous ball of highly compressed carbon aka diamond. |
