Remember sign-off with the National Anthem very well. Some stations also played an inspirational piece called "High Flight." Please Google it if interested.

Also remember the Indian head test pattern at sign-on and sign-off...as well as "Trouble Along the Cable" image slide put up on screen when there was interruption in the coaxial signal from the network.

I particularly remember a "trouble" slide that had a beaver, groundhog or some sort of rodent chewing through the cable indicating an interruption. Anyone else remember that?

I remember as a kid turning off the TV every time that came on because 'Poltergeist' freaked me out.jay

ohyeah I hated the static too after that.

Had the BIG furniture-box TV with the 'extra-deluxe' 2nd giant clear plastic dial...top dial went through channel 33 but had a 'UHF' selection, where then you could fine tune the 2nd dial...jay

.....and in the end STILL only pick up maybe 5 stations on a good day.
 Quoting: Dace

Had a big console color tv that only had green and red. Topped with rabbit ear antennas. Only 3 or 4 channels. Real high tech tounge
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73119835

'high-tech' is when you figured out to add the tinfoil balls on the ends to pick up fuzzy-static channel #5.

I remember that.
I think i remember one station signing off with the music from "Gone with the wind" too.
I think the national anthem was widely common.
I was born in 1976, and while i have seen the other ones you mention since the 70's,80's, i dont remember them from that time.
I do remember when remote controls still had a wire attached to the tv though, or not having a remote control at all and just knobs to turn, and when the knob broke....pliers.lol

I loved the static. Slept like a baby.

I still have a portable analog tv I use for my static fix. Sometimes things briefly appear.

This is no joke.

Several years ago when I had satellite I fell asleep with tv on. Every morning at 3:00 am that static would appear as the system resets.

When I fell asleep the volume was up higher than normal. When the static came on, it startled me and woke me up and I sat up. I looked across the room and saw a monkey sitting in front of my fridge just staring at it.

When I sat up, it looked back at me and had a surprised look on its face that I was looking at it. It immediately ran towards the static screen and faded out about half way to the screen.

I didn't sense any fear at all. I just thought the whole time, "wtf did I just see"?

The fridge the monkey was looking at, I had a friend airbrush Michael the archangel on one side and the devil on the other side.

It wasn't a dream because I got up to go pee and when I went back to sleep I was still thinking, wtf?

It is very plausible that youtube videos have such subliminals embedded after they are uploaded.

Absolutely!! We lived in a rural area in the mid-1950s and could get 4 stations with an outside antenna. I vividly remember being sent outside at night to turn the antenna in the proper direction for the show my parents wanted to watch and hearing through the open window the commands from inside..."a little bit more, a little bit more...STOP...right there, no, back a little...GOOD!!"
