oh yeah, central florida is sinkhole central.
this happens every year, especially after large storms.
its part and parcel of living here.
the ground can just open up underneath you at any moment.

just a bit south of Ocala is THE VILLAGES, called the largest retirement community in the country if im not mistaken.
they are saturated with sinkholes opening up, its really bad there.
we dont even hear of half of them....

there are tiny little sinkholes that appear in many peoples yards and they stay small, some a few inches wide.
you might think an animal had dug a hole..

Lived there...shitty developers! All their 'manmade' lakes in the middle of hastily built subdivisions ALWAYS pop after a long dry spell (which they just had) followed by heavy rains. The weight change in the RETENTION PONDS break through the underground caverns. Happens all the time.

water level of the lake is super low, as all the water has found its way to underground channels which super saturate the ground beneath the grass, eventually causing it to liquify into the earths

I haven't seen any in the neighborhood but did see one off 60th last year. I'm in Dunnellon.

Other companies are going to what is called “catastrophic ground collapse” instead of sinkhole coverage – and the bugaboo is that the home has to really be affected for coverage to kick in – companies will tell folks that it covers sinkholes, and it does to some degree, but of course it’s written by insurance companies to give them a whole lot more leeway to say no.

The underground aquifers are being lowered by the volume of drinking water that is being pumped up out of them!!!

As this displaces and is being refilled by rain water it dissolves the limestone under foot, and you get sinkholes.
