The State hounds out anyone who dares to question the orthodoxy no matter how illustrious the institution is that does the research. The attitude of the State in this is NOT science, it is expediency or utilitarianism. It is for the greater good as they see it although with 1 in 50 now on the autistic spectrum I cannot see how that can possibly be defined as the greater good.
