Yep. The west called their bluff and showed that Russia won't stand by their ally when push comes to a shove. Why? Because their tech is all hype and no substance.

2. They are all in on it together and a deal has been reached on how this is going to end.

There is no third option. My guess is a deal or in the worst case an "understanding" has been reached. It is all about saving face.

Russia gets the pipeline & military bases in Syria, they win.

The West gets Assad removed, Iran out of Syria, Hezbollah/hamas weakened & funding diminished, Iran "controlled" they win as well.

There is a way here where all can have their cake and eat it as well
