I don't know why you believe that giving MORE control of the internet to large corporations like Comcast, Facebook, and Google will help the situation.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 59543796

Because they are not in control now? It’s important that the speed in which they want the internet censored completely is slowed. Anything that allows people to still air their rights to freedom of speech needs celebrating.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29734028

Censorship has nothing to do with it.
Ending net neutrality means TURNING OVER the internet to Comcast, Facebook and Google and giving them carte blanche to control what you can see and at what speed.

Don't you get it??

I thought google and ms did kind of own the internet already? I thought that it stopped a monopoly taking complete control of it on its own. Competition is healthy and thus allowing the internet to continue in a similar role as now as opposed to complete censorship due to it being more or less state run.

I don’t think I do get it?

You're a fucking liar. The internet already has slow and fast lanes. Gaming and streaming movies require more speed and bandwidth. Email doesn't. Sites like Netflix just don't want to pay for it so went to war with ISPs. You lying pieces of shit are misleading everyone and you're doing it deliberately. The internet was free and open from the time it began. It was fine. NN has only been in effect for three years and we now have censorship all over and higher rates.
In his poem Human Pride, Marx admits that his aim is not to improve the world, reform or revolutionize it, but simply to ruin it and enjoy it being ruined:

With disdain I will throw my gauntlet full in the face of the world,
And see the collapse of this pygmy giant whose fall will not stifle my ardor.
Then will I wander godlike and victorious through the ruins of the world
And, giving my words an active force, I will feel equal to the Creator.

Net Neutrality came about when people wanted to use face time apps and other high intensity bandwidth uses over wireless internet.

Imagine if netflix were a trucking company, and they wanted the exclusive use of the highway system to deliver their goods.

That's what's happening here, higher bandwidth services such as streaming, chatting in real time, etc demanded higher network services.

They should be charged more.

People don't realize what's involved in sharing their stupid conversations over the internet.

Re: Hell Yeah! Senate votes to reverse FCC order and restore net neutrality
Net Neutrality was a form of regulation that kept things on the internet as they always were. Comcast was trying to charge extra for delivering netflix, they went to netflix and told them to pay for the bandwidth, which costs them 0$ that their customers were using.

The regulation under the previous FCC chair protected online service providers from the internet access providers who already have monopolies in most of the US due to unregulated mergers. Then Ajit Pai, A former verizon lawyer became chair and decided that the monopolies should be allowed to charge for the content you get over the internet.

This isn't a partisan issue, it's a corporate issue. Should internet access providers be allowed to charge content providers for fast access to their content? Are then willing to pay subscriptions for content on the internet, knowing that money goes to the same company that charges you for giving you internet?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73577072

Well lets see, Netflix wanted to use more bandwidth without paying more, it seems they wanted preference over other websites without paying for it.

Seems like a pretty liberal policy to enforce private companies to charge the same no matter how much bandwidth a company is using.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 42079668

You pay for your internet speed in tiers. Your subscription comes with a set speed and if you are unlucky a data limit. The side we are talking about, getting the data to you, is payed and covered by you. Why should netflix have to pay extra and then charge you more for your subscription? That's double dipping.

Oh that's right television is subject to the domination of bureaucracy via the FCC and it's stronghold over television.

Do you want the internet to become like television?

That's what's going to happen with net neutrality.

If only that was really what this bill is about lol.

I'm sure everyone here understands the basic principals of the free market and competition. If an ISP were to degrade the performance of a streaming service, do you not think a competitor would find a way to eliminate that degrading performance without negative benefits to the consumer? Do you not think consumers would prefer that solution?

It's almost like free market principals are not taught any more or people have forgotten that anti-trust laws exist for a reason. If an ISP is buying up the competition in local areas for consumer control purposes, that is a matter for the anti-trust laws. Not more government control.

Wait, they voted FOR net neutrality or AGAINST?

'Net Neutrality' so-called, is not neutral and only benefits companies like Netflix, Amazon, Google, etc., through subsidies, then rate limits the little guys because they don't pony up enough cash for bandwidth.

Yes, those bandwidth hogs need fast lanes (which have always been there but they need more) and they don't want to pay for it. They convinced the useful idiots it wasn't "fair" that some users need to pay more than others for this extra infrastructure that's required. The useful idiots think the little guy/small user is going to pay more, which isn't true. It was always about the big streaming sites paying an access fee for all that extra speed. If liberals had their way, there would be only one lane on the freeways to be "fair" and jets would have to fly as slow as a Cesna because "fair". And, they also want censorship.

Your points don't actually make sense. Your analogy with a trucking company is quite uneducated to be honest.

Within that example netflix with be using the roads paid for by taxes (ISP subscription charges for the Internet and Taxes for actual roads) but they would then be required to pay a surcharge to use the road alongside of you to deliver the packages you want to you.

Big difference is that the roads cost a lot of money, extra bandwidth is pretty cheap and generally doesn't require much extra hardware where we are now. And keep in mind that the actual bandwidth (The actual roads of the internet) Have long been subsidized by the government and your tax payer money.

The ISPs are just milking every dollar out of their monopolies.

Sorry I felt I needed to use a very small brained analogy to break it down for you.

Anyone who supports net "neutrality" ( a misleading name by the way ) supports the full government control of the internet.

Bottom line.

That is what will lead to internet being like television.

It's been proven time and time again government control makes things worse, not better.

Net neutrality gives the government the power to regulate and with it, it's only a matter of time before the internet in fact becomes not free, and websites like this will disappear.

As far as bandwidth you aren't going to argue that more demand on the network puts more stress and requires more power, more maintenance, etc.

You simply can't deny that.

So companies as well as people who want "fair internet" don't realize the costs involved in what they want.

Lets be honest, mostly folks who support net neutrality are concerned with their download speeds being slowed, because they are downloading tons of media, illegally.

The only other people supporting this lunacy would be brainwashed liberals.

You assume that carrying the data increases costs for the ISP's. If it were so your argument would hold true. That however is not the case. ISP's are just dipping into more revenue sources. And keep in mind they use subsidized infrastructure. The ISP's are maximizing the revenue for their shareholders by charging the user and the provider for their services that they offer over lines payed for by taxpayers.

It's like a town charging a fee per customer entering a shop.

It's amazing how GLP survived for 16 years without net neutrality.

Thankfully Obama the lord christ and savoir came up with this great law to make these evil internet providers comply with government regulations.

After all if we can't have the internet controlled like another utility, how can we trust anyone but the government to regulate and keep it safe??????

GLP survived all these years WITH a neutral internet.

You stupid fuckers want to ruin that and turn it over to Google and Mark Zuckerberg.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 59543796

Net neutrality is turning the internet over to the hands of the government for them to regulate.

Is that what you want?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 42079668

I want the internet to stay as it has been. That means NEUTRALITY and not allowing mega corporations to FUCK WITH IT!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 59543796

Government regulation is not neutral.

There are laws in place to prevent corporations from doing anything illegal.

They aren't out to prevent you from using internet or slow you down.

It's just not good business.

People are so brainwashed they think the government is their savoir from the evil corporations.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73577072

Because people like me who would NEVER subscribe to Netflix should not pay more because you do have Netflix. You want it, you pay for it, however much that is.

Re: Hell Yeah! Senate votes to reverse FCC order and restore net neutrality
The Senate today voted 52-47 to disapprove the FCC’s recent order replacing 2015’s net neutrality rules, a pleasant surprise for internet advocates and consumers throughout the country. Although the disapproval will almost certainly not lead to the new rules being undone, it is a powerful statement of solidarity with a constituency activated against this deeply unpopular order.

Small brained analogy here.

Towns don't own shops, they are privately owned businesses.

And if that shop owner is paying for electricity, taxes, mortgage, all to run that shop, why shouldn't he charge people to walk in?

But they don't.

And they won't.

Because business owners aren't some greedy evil folks, and the government isn't here to save you from them.
