Message Subject Any medical advice about "blood infection"

My husband had been having pain in his knee. He has artificial knees, so he thought it was failing....Well, anyway, he started having a pain in his knee, thought it was the implant. But when he finally couldn't stand it anymore, went to Dr. today. Turns out he has this blood infection.

Last time he got this blood infection, he had "symptoms" - a high fever, chills (which is a symptom of sepsis). Apparently, it came very close to being deadly last time. He had to have 10 days of intravenous antibiotics...anyway, he's got it again....

Anybody got any ideas WHY he keeps getting this? This actually may be the third - or fourth time - but first two weren't as bad, and antibiotics took care of it easy. Second time was the intravenous. Now we caught it earlier.

But my thought is, WHY does he keep getting this? Anybody got anything?

Had excact same. The prothsesis parts that aren't titanium are vunerable to infection.Mine got an infection. The infection spread to entire body, via the blood. After couple years mismanagement they prescribed a very powerful antibiotic that rid my body of the infections, but parts of the prothsesis still flare up. I will always be on permanent antibiotics, they limit the infections spread . Replacing the prothsesis is highly unlikely to make it better, it very well could make it much worse. I'll do it if my mobility becomes affected only. I've had to stay in hospital for the iv antibiotics twice in 20 yrs. The infection is never entirely killed, its management forever. I had three drain sites , now its down to one. The infection site on prothsesis is size of match head. Its a standard staph, if were mrsa, or vrsa, i'd have no choice about trying to replace it. Antibiotics forever and i've used colloidal silver also during the worst phases. It does seem to help. My girlfriend was required to take antibiotics at one stage, to stop the staph bouncing back between us. She refused, i got rid of her, and improved straight away.
