For better or worse, we all have to admit that we NEED doctors....sometimes to simply DIAGNOSE what is wrong.

Oftentimes, we then choose OUR OWN methods of treating. Like with his heart issues from 5 years ago. They wanted to put him on statin drugs. I researched, found out about EDTA, and now he takes it instead. Heartbeat - B/P is normal, cholesterol is better than mine! So we feel like this was a good option. I'll do the same thing when/if we pinpoint what is the blood infection coming from....

Looking back at the entire thread, it's obvious everyone has an "idea." Some from personal experience, others from what they have read.

We - hubs and I - have lived long enough to have seen plenty of friends/family MISdiagnosed and dead because of it. Sometimes you simply don't get answers in time....It is what it is.

All we can do is all we can do - or WILL DO - as in this case. Some of this he will pass off as "hoo-ha." Therefore, WILL NOT consider it worthy of consideration. I did not realize then that the last time he had this infection it was as close to sepsis and KILLING HIM as it was. Afterward, when explaining to someone (a nurse friend, I think? who herself had been going through a surgical procedure, so wasn't available to talk to), and she described his symptoms as severe reaction and almost septic to the point of death.

Wow. Didn't know that! We won't let this infection get that bad again, but he DOES tend to let things ride longer than necessary. Overall, very healthy individual, and wants to stay that way, but won't admit to "getting older." Doesn't necessarily believe in all the "hoo-ha" woo-woo alternatives to modern medicine, but doesn't want to do conventional meds, either, so what to do?

I just look for possible causes, present it to him and/or doctor and they will decide how to proceed. You all must agree, there are almost as many treatment options/opinions here as there are people, so who's right? Who's totally out in left field? No way for me to know, and I don't believe trying them all is a good idea.

You've all given me lots to explore, research and present to the doctors as things I want them to check out. Beyond that, only time will tell if they are able to stabilize things so he does'nt continue getting the infection.

I WILL add probiotics to his daily regimen. I will consider several of the other options I have read. And I will continue reading and learning. We have both been blessed to have been fairly healthy for most of our adult lives, so there would be a huge learning curve/change of lifestyle if you will (dietary changes, adding herbs/vitamins, etc.).
