Teenager who microwaved kitten only got six months' probation

A 17-year-old boy who microwaved a kitten until it had to be put down has walked away with six months' probation.

The seven-week-old kitten, who belonged to another family, suffered internal damage and had to be put down the day after.

The boy, who is from Victoria, was charged with animal cruelty following the event in January, according to the ABC.

However, he was spared a fine and conviction after Magistrate David Faram ruled he had no understanding of the impact of his actions.
