Cancer Research facilities get grants and are paid to "search for the cure".

That's right. SEARCH. Not "find".

I read a story about a new tech in a cancer research facility that mentioned to his boss that he had an idea that could actually FIND the cause and FIX it and he was told by his boss, "You're here to SEARCH for the cure... Once you FIND it, then look around.. ALL of us and our families will be without jobs... Go back and do what you are told and do NOT pursue your idea."

It's all about money, sadly.
