I am pretty good at identifying animals. I am too stumped. Quoting: Chop Top Sawyer looks like a wet fox. The tail..... "Dog will hunt" "When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty." |

The darker color on the lower half of the legs give it away. Quoting: HomeOnTheRange Chupacabras are not dog-like critters. They are more alien, or reptilian-like. Sometime in the last 10 years or so, for some reason (most likely to spread disinfo) critters with bad cases of mange have been called chupacabras. I’ve got a 2 year degree in Fisheries and Wildlife and I know mange, it does not look like that. Plus foxes have shorter tails. Then it may be some other disease or mutation that causes hair loss. Foxes have tails about equal to their "body" length, which it appears this critter has. Whatever it is, it's canine. Here's another video showing a red fox with mange. I still think it looks similar, however the resolution of the video you shared is too low for my to see many specifics to make a determination. It could be a sick dog. |

I’ll forward to my friend. Thanks You're welcome :) I generally try to not talk out my ass. I visually study animals daily as a wildlife artist, so I'm pretty familiar with identifying them through movement, and and proportions. People calling sick dogs/foxes/coyotes/wolves chupacabras are a pet peeve of mine. The Chupacabra story became known from reports in Puerto Rico, and aired on Coast to Coast in the 90s. It was described as something much like a more...bestial version of a grey alien, but with kangaroo legs and porcupine quills.... which is nothing like the critter we're seeing here. The reports of sick canines as chupacabras started in the 2000s, most likely as a disinfo campaign to make people studying cryptozoology seem unhinged. |
