Re: Friendly discussion and thought exercise to religious people
Well, it's impossible to show proof it isn't true.

Because faith is what people have-which is believing in things unseen.

So, my question to you is, when Faith is what people use to believe in God, how can you EVER prove it untrue?

The very essence of faith is believing in things with no proof.

So yours is a moot point.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74989921

Proof is the burden of one making a positive claim. If you say "God exists" you have to provide proof, but you cannot use "you can't prove me wrong, thus I might be right" because it is a fallacy.
There are dragons, unicorns, pixies, fairies and blob monsters around. Can you prove me wrong? If no, then it means they are real. Its the same analogy.

OP, this is intriguing and thank you for posting this... green from me to counter the red im sure you have gotten..

Im lutherin, which would trace back to catholic.. So no trinity, virgin birth, babtism, no saving.

no jesus, no savior..

then there would be no promise of a nice after life for all as a promise for all the pain and toil and crap you had to endure...

then there would be no reason to be good to anyone since your not being watched

you would live in a hot desert and eat pork and get deathly ill because there were no laws by god prescribed by god that said dont eat pork in a desert that doesn't have refrigeration

why stay with one person for protection? look for whatever stronger person who could protect you.. he gets meat for needed protein and I pick berries because they are craved..

Damn OP... Good thought experiment....

Ok, let's accept that a creator made the world, made dna, and made us. All this being true, none of it leads to any single religion being more true than another, nor does it lead to any single religion being less true than another. It may also mean that all the religions are various expressions of the same truth.

Ignorants is the same of ignoring something. For example, I know nothing about car engines, thys I'm ignorant regarding car engines. Ignorance itself makes the term "ignorant" derrogatory when its just a description of one whom doesn't know about something.

None of them would be considered derogatory to an intelectually honest person. People with intelectual honesty, are very aware of their ignorance, illiteracy, uninformed condition(all of the about maybe only excepting "naive about) about many topics. Only those with a self inflated ego would claim that being ignorant is derogatory, this is lack of humbleness.

Re: Friendly discussion and thought exercise to religious people
Why does your freedom end where others begin?
If there is no God than there is no external wrong or right. The world becomes only what you can get away with.
If there is no wrong or right than there should be no problem with someone stealing your car, lying about it and sayings its theirs. You would have no problem with that.
But we all know that that would be an act of injustice. Each of us has an inner sense of wrong and right. This is not relative with each person having their own wrong or right. This comes from an external source.

The fact that you said that your freedom ends where another begins proves that you have an internal sence of wrong and right. Thus you have proven the existence of God.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76704512

Your premises are fallacious. You start with the conclusion then you develop your argument around it. You cannot prove that morality(which is what you're talking about) is inherently sourced in a god. If you claim so, you must prove so.

And "reading between the lines" of your statements, leads me to the conclusion that you're one realization away from becoming a horrible person. I'm sorry if it sounds harsh, but judging by what you wrote, its what leads me to think. You said that people would kill, steal and act horribly without a god. By that I get that you're probably gonna do all these things if by any chance you stop believing.
 Quoting: MaybeTrollingU

I didn't start with the conclusion I started with your words...

Again you say if you steal you act horribly. If there is no God and no external wrong or right than why do you say that that is horrible?
You have proven to me that you have a moral code. This code has to come from an external source or you would see no problem with someone else acting by their own moral code which may be completely different from your own.
Again, your words have proven there is a God by showing you morality.
As far as trying to personalize things toward me I wouldn't steal even if it wasn't a sin.
But really I thought we were dealing with abstractions. What's wrong? Can't do a little thought exercise?

This is a slippery slope, op. It is true that the burden of proof is on the one making the positive claim, but this is also something all materialistic atheists ignore all the time when they trot out the unicorns and flying teapots and think they scored some kind of kill shot.

So, to the atheists in the room who insist that the world consists of nothing more than matter and that when you die, you simply cease to exist, I would ask, where is your evidence?

Note that I am not saying anything else is true, merely pointing out that the cardinal tenets of materialistic atheism are just as faith based as any religion and is in fact as much a religion or belief system as any other.

I'm not OP, but a "religious person" would likely be one whose actions and behavior are based upon their beliefs in the tenets of some established religion, whether or not they have come to those beliefs by indoctrination or by experience(and that makes all the difference in the world)..

IF you are trying to prove him wrong you will need more then a first hand witness. You need multiple people who have had the same experience describing the same thing so someone can take all that information into a pattern. It's what CSI and NCIS does on tv.

But your problem is there is so few faith 'things' that the millions you said happen every year cant be tracked. You really need to get with your local church so they start tracking these miracles.

If you think about it, the churches have ignored and not categorized these millions of miracles WHICH IS theiR jOB but have just been building houses for the cleregy and buying planes.

Its a thought exercise, an abstraction exercise. If you can, imagine that all you know about your specific religion is a lie. Like all the religions along history that arise, faded and die, think that your religion is also a lie. What would you do?

You do realize that there are 2.2 billion Christians. The cumulative length of time that the Judeo-Christian religion is possibly as old as when humans first began agricuture so 10,000 years old.

During that time, lots of religions died out, but Christianity did not.

So you want us to suppose it will become extinct, yet it is not, and not use Scriptures. So our hands are tied behind our back, then you are free to say whatever you want.

What a troll tread, and actually it exposes your intentions and total inabilty to defend atheism.

So you are totally unwilling and unable to defend your beliefs while imagining the death of ours while this is a fallacy and then we are supposed to defend ours but with no evidence.

It honestly strikes me as cowardly.

The worst thing you can do is cite one source and then do the "BOOM HEADSHOT I WIN FTW" You mentioned millions of miracles. post a 700 club video and then claim victory. No.

You need to talk to your Bishop

on edit: Boom headshot. :)

edit2: FTW!!!!!!

It should be pointed out that you are munging two posts and that the points that TLS is responding to in the post that I wrote have nothing to do with the other post about the miracles. Mine is a different post responding to different points.

ok miracle mary , when you pick a few miracle mushrooms on your lawn and start seeing the million miracles, feel free to reply..

I donno why an avid miracle hunter and spotter was so quick to not spot the miracles in the area? How many children could have been helped had that million miracle quiver been full of Gods love.

Can we meet up tomorrow at Cincy Childrens hospital? There are hundred of sweet innocent kids there that need millions of angels. When should I expect you there?

Dude, wtf are you on about? I didn't have anything to do with the miracle post and didn't say anything about it. You are responding to the wrong person.

Nope. I did not fail. I use my intellect and philosophy. I did not use Scripture.

Re: Friendly discussion and thought exercise to religious people
Atheists cannot take criticism.

For all of human history as agricultural tribal people, there has been spirituality. Those who did not believe were often cast out as fools.

Atheism is not more logical. It is not more scientific. It is not more philosophical.

Atheism is just another faith based religion.

So wise people choose Christianity and reject atheism. Nothing cannot create all the mass in Universe. That is not logical. Nothing willnever create something.

Life is not random. The newest evidence points to spontaneous species not evolution. This is the latest finding that 90% came about this way.

You believe somethings which violates reason and philosophy and science.

Then you claim objective morality doesn't exist. In such a word, the strong would destroy the weak and there would be no justice.

Re: Friendly discussion and thought exercise to religious people
There is no evidence for atheism. On faith, you believe that GOD does not exist.

On faith, we believe that GOD exists in Christianity.

Neither can prove it.

There is no intellectually superior position. That is a fallacy to think otherwise.

However due the principle of Occam's Razor, Christianity is more logical and philosophical.

It will not become extinct.

In fact, the only time that it is imperiled is by atheists like in Communist China. And then, people practice it in secret and openly.

Do you see any Christians in governments executing atheists? The reverse is true.

Re: Friendly discussion and thought exercise to religious people
Its a thought exercise, an abstraction exercise. If you can, imagine that all you know about your specific religion is a lie. Like all the religions along history that arise, faded and die, think that your religion is also a lie. What would you do?

- If you can't do it and go with the path "It can't be" or "I just can't cope with such an idea", don't bother posting.
- Don't quote the bible, its pointless for the exercise, if you can't do it, you fall under the category above, of people incapable of abstract thinking

Oh geee another Atheist that believes everything of the natural world, including the Universe and all that's in it just happened by chance.

So Atheist stop acting as if you're some intellectual giant because your not.
Math nor physics backs your BS ideas of the natural world coming in to being without a intelligent designer.
