People were absolutely sweet during the 60s. I can remember our family getting our first off base home in a charming little suburb in Greenville, Alabama. We were a family of 5, mom, dad and 3 kids, we were white. The 2nd day of unpacking we kids noticed a rather large group of well dressed black women coming up the sidewalk, the all had cooked food, covered dishes, cakes and pies! They turned onto our sidewalk! We kids scurried past them to alert mom. Mom came to the porch in her house unpacking clothes. The ladies introduced themselves as being from a local Baptist church. One by one telling mom their name and shaking her hand deposited what dish they happened to be holding into moms hand. We kids kept running the food into the kitchen. The ladies didnt want to come in as they knew mom was busy unpacking with 3 girls to watch. The ladies left, we were overwhelmed at all the food and kind of stunned at the kindness of the Welcoming committee. I wish people would be that kind still. The young people of today have no idea what it really was like in small communities before all the hate started. |

I'm old enough to recall this, too, that neighbors would in the very least go introduce themselves to the new family moving in. |

I worked as a flight attendant in the last days smoking was allowed and even the smokers didn’t want to sit in the smoking section. Lol. Yes it was that bad. And I don’t remember cigarettes smelling so bad like they do today. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76538212 Speaking of which, I spoke awhile back with a black guy in his mid-70s. He said when he was a kid playing out on the street - probably in an all-black neighborhood - when other kids acted up and became rowdy, the older women sitting on their front porches would stick their heads out and scold the kids. They'd then simmer down and sheepishly go back into their homes. He said that nowadays if the grandmothers on a street tried to do that, they'd run the risk of being punched or shot. There was a period in 80s-90s where you could not smoke on Amtrak coach, but you could in your private sleeper. I am getting older and I do miss the time when people seemed to be more responsible and connected to and for each other. This age favors anonymity at the expense of family and community. Disposable existence, getting lost rather than accept responsibility.... People were nicer because more people overall behaved responsibly. That built community and respect for all. Now we have thug life. Giwani-Mek Translates as: Wandering Beaver Nothing shall be so certain as to permit confusion |

Quoting: Fur Whisperer Pete This is what I did much of my teenage years in Duncan, OK. People were generally alot nicer in the 1990's than they are today. People knew how to initiate and maintain a conversation prior to social media's invention. People wouldn't shy away from you for your efforts to initiate a conversation. People knew that when you opened a conversation with "Have a nice day!" and/or something similar it was a conversation killer or immediately ended the conversation. Nowadays dang near everyone says similar stuff expecting a long flowing conversation to spring forth from a conversation closer. People just don't know how to talk to anyone anymore for any length of time. Even when they do it's almost over the most vapid of topics. Conspiracy Theorist is nothing more than a derogatory title used to dismiss a critical thinker. A time is coming when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him, saying, 'You are mad; you are not like us." -- St. Anthony The Great Social Credit Loser here. |

I know society has always had things to be fearful of but its so battered into us now to fear this and fear that, fear each other, be fearful of what you say in case of offending any snowflakes. I liked the video because the people were so genuinely relaxed and carefree and able laugh and joke with each other without having to walk on egg shells. People back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s were probably so much healthier than us and its probably because they were so laid back and happier.
