The word 'contending' is often used in Scripture to refer to war.

When Cain sacrificed Abel to Mother Earth/Hathor, he recieved Fleshly Immortality.

The sacrifice of Jesus however, gave us Spiritual Immortality.

This is like the movie "Groundhog Day" with Bill Murray.
Loved that movie...and it sort of sounds like what you
are talking about in this post.

In the film, he has to repeat every day over and over again
until he "gets it" (I guess it was Devine Will that Bill
learn compassion, selflessness, respect for women and

Pretty good flick. Some who believe in reincarnation think
that you relive lives over and over to "learn something."
Some people must be really SLOW learners, though since
