7/27 Lunar Activity

I'm 28 and just saw our satellite (moon) appear smaller than I've ever seen. All of this 7/27 talk is making a bit of sense. I'm in south florida and have been reading a bit into this. Does anyone have any explanation as to why the world has been going crazy over this past week? Especially in accordance with this lunar event?
