[link to www.clavius.org] Anyway, is it surprising that the citizens of the country we beat to the moon would want to live in denial that we beat them? To me it sure isn't. Hell, even I still hold a grudge that the Soviets "cheated" the first manned spaceflight by having Yuri eject before the capsule hit the ground. That was against Fédération Aéronautique Internationale rules, and they kept that detail of his planned (and executed) bailout concealed for 4 months after the flight. They had to change the rules in order for Yuri to keep his FAI record after he revealed he ejected from the vehicle during its final descent. It wasn't until later that the Soviets perfected their retro rockets for slowing down their capsules right before they impacted the ground, making it safe for cosmonauts to land inside their capsules rather than bailing out.  |
