Yellowjackets got me today. Those are no joke.

I like to wait til dark and kill them with fire.

Ive been chased off of my roof by a swarm of them before. And yes, they chased me for quite a while.

I occasionally bump into a nest when I'm out hunting, and those things will hunt you down and follow you for 100 yards or more.

A good natural remedy for the sting is baking soda. Moisten baking soda into a cake and apply to the area that was stung. Also, vinegar helps reduce itching once the sting has subsided.

Im scared of coming across one of these when Im out metal detecting.

Benadryl is about the only thing that stops the itching for me. The affects of yellow jacket stings on me last for weeks without it.

Damn, that nest is a sure death sentence.

I just did the same thing about 4 days ago.

Mowed over a bees nest...only got stung once (I was wearing shorts...it got me on the lower calf).

I was surprised at how mild the sting was...I remember it hurting alot worse when I was a kid.

I told the femail man to watch out for it when she came by.

Saw something similar to that on a side of a barn. It was easily 6 ft long and several ft wide.

Fuck that!

We used to shoot the nests as kids and run like hell.lol

Stung my eye in the dark woodshed, in the middle of the night last winter. Saw it on my sleeve half dead.

Try being a cable guy. Every damn door I open, every time i set my ladder up, i have to bd extremely tentative. Thoss bastards are the band of my existence, especially when up on a ladder 20 feet in the air.

The only time I have been ever stung by a BEE is when I carelessly steeped on it - doing what it does collecting pollen on the clover in the lawn.

Yellow jackets are preditry wasps not Bees. Common mistake.

One of the stings feels like a normal bee sting. The other, is shit fire!

This thing burns and the small dot where he first stung me is now a circle, growing, like the freaking skin is eating away.

Feels like I've been branded by that sucker.

Old man in Mississippi told me the best remedy for yellowjacket stings is Levi Garrett chewing tobacco. Just take a wad out of the pouch and hold on the site of the sting.

Baking soda in a paste, (water or even spit) will end the sting IMMEDIATELY.

Ya know, a guy at work told me the same thing.

Nobody had any.

I heard the baking soda thing too.

I did do the baking soda paste. Redness and heat went down, but that burning skin feeling didn't.

I see now how those little shits can take lives.

I got stung near the eye by a big black and white Wasp looking thing and thought to grab a weed leaf a few feet away, squished it in my fingers to get it to juice a little, put it on the bite and it never even swelled up!

The spot was sore for a couple days because I think it stung several times to the bone, but looking up that type of Hornet, the area usually swells so bad you can't see out of that eye for several days.

Bees are mostly harmless unless the killer type.
Wasps hurt a lot, but are fairly docile.
Hornets are aggressive and swarm.
Yellow Jackets are carnivorous pests you don't want around, and these are the ones below ground.

I once had a yellow jacket land on my calf while I was carrying a TV to my car. It bit me. Took a chunk of flesh, blood ran down my leg. I still have the scar.

Totally unprovoked.

I've been stung a few times by them unprovoked as well, the swelling was incredible just like OP describes.

Now if I see one around me, I don't give them leeway. I will kill them on sight, while I let all others go about their way. Vicious little things.

Yes, they are vicious I have seen them rip their rear ends off and leave them behind still stuck into your leg just like in this video.
Their sting can get infected as well and leave a nasty hole in your flesh. They eat nasty stuff like dead carcasses.

Bifen IT or Termidor will be your friend. Spray at night. You can buy both online.

Yikes!! Reading this gave me the willies!! I tossed a trash can in the dumpster at work awhile ago and out came a gaggle of very angry hornets who proceeded to tear my ass up!! I was wearing shorts and those suckas must go for the knees or something!! I must have gotten stung 10 times on one leg. My calf swelled up so much I had to cut my shorts to get them off. A customer was there and heard the commotion, I'm certain plenty of F words were shouted at insects that morning. Lol She tells me I am certainly going to die from Anaphylactic shock and if she had her "needle kit" as she called it she would inject me. Umm no you won't be doing any such thing, I stopped letting random strangers walking down the street inject me with things long ago. Have you ever heard of the bee lady in Waldorf?? She is a friend of my mother's who has been on the local news many times for her bee sting treatments. She has had MS for a long time, much longer than she should have survived. She just recently passed away, but they had told her 30 years ago she had 5 years to live. She swore by the bee sting treatment. Every time I stopped by they tried to sting me everywhere. Supposedly bee stings are supposed to be very beneficial, the venom.has some sort of anti-inflammatory effect that is allegedly more powerful than any medication they can give you. People came from all over for her to sting them. Sounds very odd, but if you read into it the Chinese people have been using bee venom/pollen as a medicine for 1000s of years.

Benadryl helps with the itching and swelling, also buy a bag of red man chewing tobacco and get a dose of it wet and tape it to the area that got stung. It'll help.

Meat tenderizer also works.
