There is no higher ground (I’m across from the beach) and sand bags are useless in our kind of flashflooding. We’re tying everything down, even tarping things inside Incase we lose the roof. Storm won’t be here until Friday but the heavy rain is supposed to start Wednesday.

They just announced an emergency meeting for my neighborhood about an hour ago. Mayor, County and State officials coming out to discuss our situation. Our only road is still basically closed since April and there’s a damn good chance the rest of it will slide into the ocean with this storm.

I saw that article. The first line really caught my attention.

Why say "By interests in the Islands" I think that's a strange choice of words. Shouldn't it say for those living or staying on the islands? I guess they are referring to the tourist industry. It just sounds more like concern over money interests than people. We already know that's the case with the eruption. Maybe I'm just reading more into it than there is...

Ventusky model has changed yet again.

On the 24th, between 7am and 10am it shows it completely fizzling out. The hurricane...NOT the rain. In fact, the rain accumulation by 10am on the 24th is showing almost 29 inches (28.67") on big island. Significantly less on Maui. Just those first two days though. The numbers are VERY grim...worse than yesterday.Enough to change the Thread Title.

Another caldera collapse? According to Rev, they got 50 inches of rain in April (just prior to the eruption).

That wasn't even on Big Island. This WILL BE, and I think we should all be prepared for something to transpire. For those of you thinking slump...you need to also think of the western face of Mauna Loa as well as Hilina. That's a whole lot of weight coming down on those slopes that already have compromised stability. Not to mention the fact that rain will be heading toward the crater and F8 as well. Honestly, I'd be very worried about F8 since it's magma is so close to the surface and it's further down-slope than the HMM crater. IF it has an explosive eruption at F8, then that definitely could unhinge Hilina. It's going to be a tense weekend. And if I were in California, I'd probably go somewhere else for a few days.
