Russia develops "Mech" suits for soldiers
Russia has unveiled a terrifying 4.5-tonne bulletproof robot that can walk and hold weapons in its giant claws - and looks straight out of sci-fi films like Avatar and Robocop.

The Avatar-style 'bot was revealed by Kalashnikov at the Army 2018 Fair just outside Moscow, as a 'demonstration of what is to come.'

The robot can walk and has space in a cabin for people to sit and operate the robot from inside and can hold and move objects with its claws, including weapons.

“My religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me. That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave.”
-Stonewall Jackson

"The Bible that is falling apart usually belongs to a person who is not." - Charles Spurgeon

“I apprehend no danger to our country from a foreign foe . . . Our destruction, should it come at all, will be from another quarter. From the inattention of the people to the concerns of their government, from their carelessness and negligence, I must confess that I do apprehend some danger. I fear that they may place too implicit a confidence in their public servants, and fail properly to scrutinize their conduct; that in this way they may be made the dupes of designing men, and become the instruments of their own undoing. Make them intelligent, and they will be vigilant; give them the means of detecting the wrong, and they will apply the remedy.”

“If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible, our country will go on prospering and to prosper; but if we and our posterity neglect its instructions and authority, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity.” -Daniel Webster

Not in total agreement with the opening statement of "terrifying"...

I must admit that after pondering over this "weapon", a sudden wave of remorse has draped over me and now lament the inability to fit into the costume of an Ewok.

Yes...so the next inevitable question is: are they Ewok proof?

You've got quite some blind spots on this thing, and the legs look like they'd be impossible to field repair. Wouldn't it collapse if one of the legs were damaged? Normally you want your armoured vehicles to have fixable wheels and hugging the ground to avoid getting knocked over.

This thing would be having a hell of a time keeping its balance if it came up against heavy weapons: And I don't see those arms capable of operating weapons (Though I could see them replacing the hands with hard points for weapon mounts)

Lastly: What mission is this thing meant to more effectively accomplish than existing equipment?

I agree 100%.
It's sci-fi fantasy.

MAYBE, just maybe, one day, we will see a mech type robot on the battlefield. But 2 legs is dumb. Why not make it a 8 wheeler with an independant electric motor for each wheel?
The cockpit looks like it would likely direct fire INTO the cabin once the sealed bullet resistant glass was breached.

Same reason the Hummer went to fiberglass hood vs sheet metal.
The hood acted like a focal point sending incoming rounds directly into the cab of the truck.

Look at what ISIS build using plate steel and a ford f-150. Now that is innovation.

You could have a spider scout robot if AI pathfinding ever gets perfected. It might be slower than a wheeled unit but that's the only place where I can see legs making sense, going through either rubble or mountainous terrain.

Rubble and rough terrain would make wheels even more capable than legs.

Re: Russia develops "Mech" suits for soldiers
OP:

This Russian Mech suit reminds me of the video game called MechWarrior 2, 31st Century Combat.

The MechWarrior 2 robots look EXACTLY like the Russian Mech suit.

I find it rather interesting that the video game is the same name as the Russians named their robo- suits "Mech."

Did anyone else on GLP ever play Mechwarrior 2, 31st Century Combat?

I used to play that game all the time. I will find some youtubes that show it.

The fact that a video game comes to real life in Russia makes me rather inclined to declare "Doom On!"

It is too eeire a coincidence.

But the video game MechWarrior 2, 31st Century Combat is world reknowned for having the best video game soundtrack in history which I will also include if you want to listen.

The motto of the video game is "MechWarrior, chose your clan!"

This is what wiki has to say about the game: [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)]

This is the awesome soundtrack for MechWarrior which has 11,544 views:

This is what the video game looks like when played which has 14,963 views:

This is meant to be a distraction

Well, I can think of scenes from war movies where some tank is trying to squeeze it's way around in a devastated city, where a good mech could just step over/onto the junk and debris?
