Re: U.S. Creates Landlord Task Force to Strong Arm Property Owners into Renting to the Poor
If you own private property and rent that private property, they are forcing you to take in Section 8 income. forcing you to be placed on a list of available housing for Section 8 candidates..

This is another case of government telling you what you can and can't do with your own property, business or body.

If you need to apply for Section 8 housing okay not a problem I'm not going to discriminate against you.. but fuck if the government has to get involved and tell me who I can and can't have on my own property
 Quoting: I hate you

One of the interesting things I just came across just now while doing section 8 research is that there is good reason that people don't want section 8:

"In addition, landlords, although required to meet fair housing laws, are not required to participate in the Section 8 program. As a result, some landlords will not accept a Section 8 tenant. This can be attributed to such factors as:

not wanting the government involved in their business, such as having a full inspection of their premises by government workers for HUD's Housing Quality Standards (HQS) and the possible remediations required[16]
a desire to charge a rent for the unit above FMR."

[link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)]

So, not only would they be telling them what they can and cannot do with their property, they also want government inspectors to inspect their property as well!

A better investment would be Tiny House Communities, where the folks themselves build them as teams and do the community service as maintains the neighborhood. Section for tiny houses on wheels and maybe even safe camping. Obama might want a campground around his place, maybe Nancy Pelosi and Schumer could take in some illegal immigrants, since they won't try to change the laws on immigration, won't allow the government to keep families and won't provide money for the housing of these border crossers. It is the least they can do.

I was a landlord for a time. Don't know if I could do it again. If I got the rent on time and the tenant wouldn't tear my property up, I would rent to them. In fact, the one who treated my property the best was the poorest!

I managed a 41 unit building that accepted sec.8.,and had no problems with it. Most of the tenants who used the subsidies there were multi-ethnic, disabled, single, adults, and senior citizens, who usually paid their portion every month, stayed longer, and took better care of their place as well as, or better than, the ones who were not subsidized. Yearly inspections only consisted of the basic requirements needed to make a property livable for people, which all owners should provide anyway. You owners would still have choices whom you would prefer as tenants, such as seniors, disabled folks, no kids, no pets, no smoking, etc.

Re: U.S. Creates Landlord Task Force to Strong Arm Property Owners into Renting to the Poor
The big thing no one ever talks about regarding section 8.

The wait list is at least 7 years.

Think about that.....a wait list of 7 years. Those in need have all this paid for ....get the ged, enroll in city college - books paid for, child care paid for, gas for your car, free bus passes.

They end up with either a trade certification or associate degree.

Then.....Apply to state college for the final two years they are accepted because of priority place, ent, Fafsa pays for everything in addition to what is listed above.

By year four maybe five they have a bachelors- well the wait list is still full another two years.

But they would ha e a degree and can even start PhD if they wanted.

Instead they sit and wait and have more babies - why? Because they are being paid and will get into section 8 and stay there until the last great grand child leaves or they pass.

Well, first problem is that most of the people you are talking about would need to start at reading and writing.

I am going to ignore the racial overtones and comments on this thread just to make a few points.

First: I have known 2 people (maybe more) in my life on Section 8.
One is a mother of 4 who works her butt off and could not survive without it. Has wonderful kids who are smart and polite. And the mom dreams of starting her own business.

The second person I know is a woman who grew up in a horrible ghetto with a drug addicted mom who died of AIDS. She became a single mom herself. Worked like a dog, got a college degree and now is a successful homeowner with a dynamite job.

Second: The people who receive the help have to jump thru all types of hoops to get it. Fill out endless forms, meet deadlines, wait in lines. Constantly follow-up, etc.
The LANDLORD/SLUMLORD who actually GETS the money doesn't have to do CRAP! And they usually DON'T. They get the money straight from the government so if the tenant has issues with things they don't even return the calls half the time.
Additionally, they charge almost double the rent when the government is paying for it.

And lastly, the program needs to be changed to GIVE the money to the people who are using it and help them buy homes that they can actually afford, even if it is a trailer. That would be a better use of the money and I am sure that if the people on the receiving end had a stake in it they would do much better than the way things are done currently.

Just my 2 cents.

U.S. Creates Landlord Task Force to Strong Arm Property Owners into Renting to the Poor

"This week the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) launched a special Landlord Taskforce to coerce more property owners to accept the taxpayer-funded subsidies (Housing Choice Voucher—HCV) issued to millions of poor people around the country. HUD Secretary Ben Carson created the special task force after studies conducted by leftist entities found that most landlords don’t accept the government vouchers, especially in nicer neighborhoods.

One of the studies was conducted by the Urban Institute, which is funded by George Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF) along with a roster of other leftist supporters."

Re: U.S. Creates Landlord Task Force to Strong Arm Property Owners into Renting to the Poor
The Sec. 8 housing program is good for some landlords that have properties in lower income areas where the "market" rent is lower. This allows landlords to get more money for their property then they would be able to get otherwise with fair market rent. Yes, they do need to have the property inspected from time to time, but the rent is guaranteed every month like clockwork. The tenant pays a little depending on income. It is a good deal for lower income areas.

That being said, it is not a good deal when the FMR is higher and Sec 8 puts a cap on the rent that can be paid. This is not a good deal for the landlord and he/she typically will not use Sec 8 in these higher income areas.

I have not investigated this further as yet. Evidently this is something new.

I do find it very difficult to believe that any landlord could be "forced" to use the Sec 8 program. I am in real estate and deal with investors all the time. They won't put up with this if in fact this is true.

That is not going to go over well.
In a matter of months or years, depending
on who gets rented to, those properties
will be abandoned or sold to the highest
bidder. Probably end up in hands of the
banks or government because the landlords
will not lose money for long.
In my area a commissioner tried to pass
a bill or statute that would allow the city
to confiscate any property whose occupants
are found with drugs.
Look at what happened to Cairo,Ill. But not
sure what caused its demise. Poor people are
struggling to survive.

I'm tired of hearing about the poor. Since I was a kid the poor haven't figured out how to get out poverty, yet we ALL know how to get out of poverty.

1. Work

2. spend less than you make

That's all there is to it.

Luck has nothing to do with success buddy. I made My first 6 figures working for 11 dollars an hour. I did have the benefit of getting paid for every hour I was away from home but it took a lot of sacrifice to spend 9 months away from home per year. As of Now I've been on a shrimp boat for 95 days with no time off and if You would sacrifice the same then poverty would be a thing of the past. Being a victim is easy and blaming other people for Your poverty is easier but it takes work to take responsibility for Your actions and to build a better life for Yourself. Do us all a favor and don't breed because people like You tend to spread misery in the world and pass it on to their children.
