Gov. Jerry Brown signed bill eliminating money bail in California

Pretty big move, wow.

A judge will review each arrest and either a)send the prospective defendant home without posting bond or b)remand them without bail pending trial.

Sounds reasonable on the face of it but judges are either going to buried in cases needing review or will just rubber stamp releases, the latter being the more likely in my opinion since the trend in California is more and more towards keeping people out of the jails.

Lots of criminals somehow can always get bail money. Thats always pissed me off.

They have to hire Sheriff joe to set up tent prison camps.

Supposedly for non-violent offenses, but still crazy imo.

And just made every municipal and county govt poorer.

So a judge will decide the accused's pre-trial fate instead of the prior ability to raise bail??

But if Jerry Brown signed it, it's bad for America.

Well, how is it fair that in the US two men can commit the exact same crime
.. Yet a wealthy man can easily just pay to be released while a poor man must sit in jail because he has no money?

This is a good move.

This is just going to over crowd California Jails more than they are already.

Hope the state has the money to build more jails.

They can set bail at $100, $1,000,000, or ROR (Released on your Own Recognizance).
