Quoting: Adytum This state is going to become more of a zoo than it already is. Nah. I'm for it: lots of relatives got fleeced by bail bond companies for lesser serious charges. Fuck those rackets. Only downside I see, is flight and sprees. For nonviolent offenders. 40+ states will be doing this in 6 years I bet. Tremendous waste on bail, due process elevations requiring a stand in attorney too early in the process, the savings are only dulled by the bureaucracy of the assessment system they are proposing. No bail changes for violent offenders. I'm a driver, I'm a winner. Things are going to change, I can feel it. |

(Hint; thus same law overhaul, is the reason those jihadists were allowed to be released in New Mexico) ACLU’s Campaign for Smart Justice... The organization is involved with bail overhaul efforts in more than 30 other states. California may be the first, but it is not going to be the only state to do this. Removing his will essentially allow people to just never show up to court |

Thats always pissed me off. Not good ... arrests can be political now with indefinite suspensions without bail is how I’m reading it Me too! Yes. I just got a serious look at the law. The courts will be able to decide the severity of the standards to keep someone jailed. If they want more prisoners, they can do that. The algorithms that decide who stays and who goes free are designed by private corporations and their algorithms are proprietary. This means that, the standards they use to decide your fate are not discussed in open court. They will use a private algorithm like, let's just say your social credit score, and if you score low, you're stuck there no matter how trumped up the charges are. Before you go thinking they only arrest criminals, I've been arrested three times in the state and they had to drop the charges all three times because they were false charges over a political issue. The point is, this isn't about setting more criminals free. It's about having unlimited power to detain political dissidents. California just went full-blown gestapo. We are officially living in pre-WW2 Germany, and every last one of us has a yellow star on their arm. This is fucked. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 76580065 United States 10/15/2018 10:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | bumping because most missed the point. The police just became judgr, jury and executioner in Cali. This is the sort of shit governments pull before they start persecuting dissidents. They don't have to tell arrestees what factors they are using to grant or not grant freedom before trial. California can now arrest you and hold you indefinitely, even if you're innocent. We already have the largest prison population in the world, and now innocent people are going to get raped, abused and murdered right along with the guilty (most guilty prisoners are non violent and dont deserve it either.) What if they used your internet history in their little algorithm. You think they'd let people who read this site go? |

Not promising I promise, I'll never vote Democrat. Actually, I'm midwest born, not Cali, but husband is Cali. Even he is ready to go now and he'll never vote Dem again either, although he used to. This is really, really, really bad. California is controlled by liberals, so if you're a conservative in this state, you can and will be persecuted. |
