As a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and Trainer with a 30 years career in IT (z80 times) here in Brazil I was seeking for ANY job for 17 months, applied even to janitorials and burger cooking... but finally got a job in February (in IT, happily) that allows me now afford a lunch every day.

Nice range of skills... especially if the Citizens are Swiss lathes.

I design a lot of custom tooling for Swiss & conventional lathes among many other things. Was a Toolmaker/Diemaker way back in the day.

Yeah, started on the Citizens 11 years ago. Self taught and now I am the go to guy on 2nds for them. Something fun about setting up a long as part on a sliding headstock lathe and getting all the regrips just right.

Hell yeah. Apparently I'll get to design fixtures for new parts and also be looking at improving other processes.

Dude, I know. A lot of the people we have coming in simply want to push a button and get a paycheck.

Im a rum dude, too many bad experiences with vodka when I was younger.

Congratulations!

I started as a CNC Programmer and CAD Technician where I currently work. It's a fun job. I've since moved up in the company but sometimes I miss those days. Its always exciting to watch your 3D drawings turn into real objects that you can touch and hold. Plus, it's fun just running the machines.

I was just at IWF in Atlanta last week and you should fucking see some of the new CNCs coming out. As usual, Biesse stole the show.

I always joke with guys on lathes that if they can't figure it out, goto MDI and enter G0 X0 Z0 and mash the green button.

That sounds like the job I had before the company was sold and they got rid of the machine shop. I prototyped new products, programmed, made fixtures, wrote up work instructions and did a lot of process engineering work. Best "Working for the Man" job I ever had.

Now I have my own small machine shop on my acreage.
