Just curious because in a shtf situation gas might be hard to find if not impossible. I have read of people converting smaller vehicles to run off alternative sources but idk if that would work with someone as big as a bus. Either way cool job you have a pretty sweet travel vehicle if nothing else. |

This particular bus gets 10 MPG whether I run hard at 65+ MPH or run at city speeds. This engine is very capable of running on veggie oil and I might add this into the mix. Unlike gasoline, diesel fuel can be stored for 10 years without going bad. Youtube - Johnny Mullet |

User ID: 68104188 United States 09/09/2018 07:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | For the last 9 months I have been building an off-grid tiny home on wheels. I have decided to join the "Skoolie" community and convert a school bus into a self-sustained tiny house on wheels for boondocking and recreational use. The entire bus relies on solar power and alternator power (when the bus is running) to charge the house batteries that run everything. I decided on a very simple build with EVERYTHING in the bus except the fridge on low draw 12 volt lighting, stereo, TV, water pump, fans, etc. The fridge runs off a 12V to 110V power inverter. Quoting: JohnnyMullet This bus can go weeks or months or indefinitely without "shore power" or be needed to plug in for electrical power. I have (2) 100 watt solar panels charging (2) 6 volt golf cart batteries wired in series for a complete 12 volt system. The system also includes a 1500 watt pure sine wave power inverter to run an apartment sized fridge and a 110 volt power strip for small house appliances. The oven is run by propane and so is the instant hot water heater. The propane system works perfectly on regular 20 lb propane exchangeable canisters. So much easier than finding a fill station. The bus has a 33 gallon water tank and the grey water tank is a simple 5 gallon water bucket under the sink and movable to under the shower. This eliminates the need to find a dump station for a gray water tank. This video is from a couple months ago, but today the power has been out for hours out due to storms and we are hanging out in the bus tonight. I am actually posting this from the bus using my cell phone reception. The entire bus build video log can be found on my YouTube channel. I feel that being self sufficient depends on what you build or do in this world. Eventually I will leave the rental house I been in for a long time and live free in the bus. I will travel the country and make money on the road with my mechanic skills...... Hey Genius....YOU are a GENIUS! I am proud just to find this! "Better to die on your feet than live on your knees". I've been wanting a Skoolie for years but decided to go with solar panels, a couple of compact 12 volt appliances, Sirius xm, propane stove and solar shower -- packaged in a long bed tundra with a camper shell. (Not near as livable as your skoolie, just the basics.) Thank you 100x for sharing. This may encourage me to rethink my Tundra setup and take the plunge on a Skoolie purchase. |

We have acres but a diesel bus is exactly what we need too. We think it will be medical....if we have enough supplies. Mad max rolling medi hut for trade. Its a hard and dangerous thing to trade...but so is food in such times. We are praying the farm will be a good refuge. Top of the hill oak forest that is not super easy to get to (they will go down the paved roads and easiest attack places) nor easy to run away from and out there, the smallest bit of even illusionary isolation works really good. We planned for our own but you make me think about selling space to people that have thier home already and need a hiding place with a well. ... Got to be a better way than poisoning off everything? Moth balls are at least a lot less toxic to you and everything? Although i am not sure about the scorpions....i would think so? They seem to know its poisonous and hard to shed/accumulates. (Did you make a foil dinner yet?)
