9-11-2001: Personal Account Thread—Where were you? 17 Years and it stil feels like yesterday..

I can’t believe it’s been nearly 20 years since that day.. feels like yesterday...I’ve always found people’s stories and accounts of that day so fascinating. I created this thread to hear your account of that day.. Please share if you’d like!

*We all know there was monkey business at play. We all know more went on than what we were told.. Let’s save that discussion for another thread...

A day unlike any other in my 32 years on earth..

Here’s my account:

I lived in NJ just outside of the city.. I was sitting in my history class when I noticed one of the female history teacher’s run past the door hysterically crying. My teacher noticed and immediately left the classroom. It Turned out that her husband was in the first tower hit. After a few minutes he returned to let us know that a airplane had hit the tower.
Initially it was reported that it was a small jet. Towards the end of the period is when Everyone started to realize something was going on. The main office started paging individual students to collect their things as their parents were picking them up.
In between classes The news of the second plane hitting had spread through the school. By this time my mother had called me out. I didn’t live far from the school so I got my things and headed for the exit. The second I stepped outside I was jolted by the roar of F-16 jets passing overhead. It flew by and turned on a dime back towardsManhattan. I’ll never forget how loud that was.
My Street was off of a steep hill with a clear view of the city. As I got to the top of the hill I watched as the small cloud had suddenly became one giant cloud. I couldn’t see Manhattan anymore.

It’s funny to think about the state of the nation today when comparing The months following 9/11... For an extended period of time the people of this
Country actually came together as one. It was a sad but electric time. People had each others back. They put petty shit aside and were genuinely good to one another. Shame that had to end..
