The upshot of the deal: Under state of Colorado law the last buyer has legal rights in the car. The hustler flipped mom and dad's car over the weekend. The last buyer took mom and dad (first party of three parties involved as the initial sellers) to court and won. Mom and dad were not only out the car but court costs as well. I was sent a cashier's check like this and they said they'd send a driver to pick up the item. I was pretty skeptical, so I googled the routing number and found that it was from a bank that was taken over. I then called the new bank and it took her about 30 seconds to figure out it was fake. They want you to deposit it in a atm where you will get credited for it. Then, a couple days later it will bounce and be deducted from your account. It's a very common scam on craigslist. Almost every item I've sold that's over $200 I'm flooded with texts from these scammers. I doubt craigslist even cares. To learn who rules over you, find out who you are not allowed to criticize. Cash only and if there is hint of anything less I leave. As for cars, same thing and then we go to the DMV where I pull the plates off and leave it. Everyone is a crook these days and you just cant trust anyone. The phony cashiers check is the latest scam with laser printers, color copiers, photo shop, etc. I hate selling stuff like this but you have to.
