Re: Online Accounts being hacked
Me too OP, email got hacked, someone was reading random e-mails. E-bay account hacked. Had to change passwords. I think there is another but I can't remember right now.

Just thought, it kind of coincides with electric company installing the new smart reader a day or two ago.

This really makes sense, our smart meter was installed right about the time this all started. I hadn't connected it until your post!

The plot thickens!!! Whoa.

Indeed. I had not even thought about the smart meter but the timing is correct.

Any app that uses your Fakebook account for authentication would be compromised.

The only one I can think of was Airbnb. I got the notice and changed my password on it. I truly hope I am at the end.

Re: Online Accounts being hacked
You're right there is a campaign going on...

Someone got into my instagram account which I NEVER use thankfully and just signed up for once for a contest entry.

But anyways they went and tried to remove my phone number and change security question etc haha

But Instragram's system basically knows what hacker behavior looks like and basically just sent me an email saying to click this link to get in the account and it didn't make me even prove anything. LOL

It was pretty funny actually all the effort they put in to getting into it and trying to clear out 2nd auth info only to have Instagram just basically flip them a bird and send me a simple link to just go back in and change the PW with no issues.

I have been wracking my brain trying to find the "weakest link". The way we finally tracked it down was by daily notices from Xbox Live. My hubs plays daily and they noticed the sign ins and changes were not from our ISP address. I had no idea it would mushroom out to so many of our accounts.

That is only possible if you use the same username and password on more than one web site or for more than one account.

Please do not take this wrong but that is basic security 1.0

I have over one hundred usernames, passwords, and accounts.

But for the most part can get away with using only three of the accounts: Google for fun; Google for Personal Business; .Gov for official business. Even so the passwords they use on other sites are all different.

You are correct - for simplicity I had used the same password. Not now. Now I have longer and unusual word/letter combinations. Sure hope my grandma brain can remember what goes where. I did the unthinkable - I wrote them down and stashed them in a drawer!
