Do you live in your bugout place?

Beautiful and solid homestead in the Ozark mountains, well equipped, stocked, considering it’s just two of us here we would have enough to last, several years at least but also own 17.5acres and working on solidifiying this place and turning into a fortress.

I looked into solar pumps. Apparently those are only used in fountains and don't work at night. But there is one that cost $4700... I don't know, my well guy doesn't speak a language that I can understand. haha.

Yes, in my mind, that is all I can afford right now.

Right now the country is full of flat out monsters. They are utterly ignorant and unskilled. After wave 1 or 2, the pickins for live in help will get safer. Many more looking at it as saving thier lives and they "can't do it alone" - right now pos's are just scoping out thier locals and planning who they will get first.
I grew up and lived rural more than burbs and our park is in the zarks at a place where 250lb fridge, downbred alice the goon said "Preppin? If i run out of something, i know where my nieghbor lives!" Thats how a lot plan to do the whole thing. Jusy going place to place predating on others. About a third of the people in our place will be killed for trying it or because someones friend comes and only sees the helper, knows they got you and will cap them off for you and others sake.
So the first wave should kill most or many of these thank god. It will also see people going through thier supplies and trying to figure out how to make more. Much safer bunch to consider taking one in? At first tho, they will be pledging fealty and murdering in the bed to take for thier selves.

You def need a geiger and in ponds the rad settles to the bottom, oil on top, draw water from middle.

I am well advised to NOT do any extra saving people and plan to be alone with animals. Not sure that can last, but, where my good stuff, animals and me sleep will be like breaking into a vault. I trust no one when I am asleep. I will also be vary wary and terminate helpers on the first sign of treachery. Hope they are earnest, because i mean even if i have a bad dream they will harm us, thats it. If you have to say "go" they won't.

The gist of bible on slaves commands that you treat them well as part of the family....i say as part of the household and estate, because bible is incredibly dirty too and why there is such a thing as "arabs"...nasty way those people used thier helpers. Almost unbelieveably nasty people, at least during bible time, if not still today. Slaves in the mideast complain all the time about the disregard, constant rape and abuse now, so niether the original pestilence trogs nor the first slave species they made have changed much if any. US culture was not a sexually nasty or childish culture until they went dumb. Many "child" cultures are indiscriminately sexual and its because thier socialism rendered them a pointless child with nothing to do and it was our morals and ethics that made the difference for US. Our ancestors knew all about the "sports of the unfulfilled and angry dead"....until the 60s promiscuity style.
Helpers are great because rare.

Assemble a home chemistry set up out of various size jars and containers. Processing raw materials one way or the other is a lot of what you will do. Have wine yeast as well as nutrtional and start building your bread oven/meat smoker. You will need it.

Hopefully this time next year I will have mine deep in the Kiamichi Mountains/Ouachita Mountains area.

Water can be an issue. 7 - 10 gallons per day per person can be realized, assuming one washer load per week and composting can. Rainfall at 12" a year can produce around this amount for a cabin.

Power: 3.5 kwh per day per person, which includes a small fridge, microwave, and a satellite internet connection. 12 U2200 forklift batteries. Use propane for the water heater.

Most Home Depot type generators last around 1,000 hours of use before either the engine or alternator gives up.

Solar is the most maintenance-free. Wind can be a supplement, but I wouldn't rely on it. Most turbines in the 400 - 600 watt range don't last beyond a few years.

I have for 4 years now. Glad I did! Preps are done, just gold and silver now.

Yep, right here where I have always lived. Montana, edge of a mountain range. Lots of water and wheat. Plenty of cattle and game. Times a coming.

Lots of snow, ice and wind too.

That's why I have purchased wood stoves. Lots of wood here.

Yes, our corner of the world ( literally ! ) is so isolated that all doom will avoid it

I've been thinking about that.

The biggest things we use electricity for is light & food storage.

A small effecient freezer would do the job...one solar panel should be able to power it.

Then use solar yard lights...charge them up during the day & take them inside to use them at night.

Maybe I'll shave the bugs too...

That's the biggest problem, I usually have to entice contractors with "3 hots and a cot" and a beautiful work environment for at least a week.

You learn that either you fix it / build it your self or it doesn't get done. A lot of people won't take any work out this far.

I'll adapt and improvise but I'm in the sticks!
